On-line Resources!
« on: June 05, 2014, 01:14:21 pm »
Looks like we don't have a page for on-line resources, thought I'd try to fix that.
Please add any on-line sources you might have sitting in your bookmarks :)

Right, forgot this one. Only found it today, it might look like it's from the myspace era(music and all), but the info seems decent.

Thanks for starting this!

Oh, and the entire http://www.starisloveni.com/English/index.html site should probably be listed instead of just the festivals page.

Great idea! I'll contribute some Baltic links to go with the rest. :)

http://www.folklore.ee/rl/pubte/ee/bif/bif1/kokare.html (Latvian Mythology)

Discusses the setup of the Latvian Pantheon and five levels of divinity.

http://www.crvp.org/book/series04/iva-17/chapter_iv.htm (Lithuanian Mythology)

Kind of a general synopsis of Lithuanian cosmology. I kind of wish that they had more on the afterlife; they mentioned briefly that Velnias was ruler of the wicked dead, and I'd like to know whether that was due to a collision with Christianity or actually a part of the cosmology.

http://kalve.cesis.lv./eng/article07.html (Latvian)

Metal symbology in Latvian myth. It covers alot of ground, from birth and death to marriage and the World Tree.

http://culturaspopulares.org/textos5/articulos/laurinkiene.htm (General Baltic with Slavic crossovers.)

This covers the creation of the sun and moon. I love it, but it doesn't cover where in the world Saule came from, which frustrates me infinitely.

I'll probably have more later; this is it for now, however. I'll be watching the thread!

Hi. I have a link, too.
Studia mythologica Slavica
It's a scientific journal. The articles are in different languages, including English. Also, all of them have English abstracts. (Note: even if the title is in English, the text might turn out to be in any existing Slavic or other language, so it's pretty much hit-or-miss.)

I came across this PDF in a couple of other groups today, Leszek P. Słupecki, 1994. Slavonic Pagan Sanctuaries. Warszawa:Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology Polish Academy of Sciences
I've not read it yet, but it looks helpful

Here is a list of Baltic pagan sources I found last night!

On Romuva (Lithuanian polytheism): http://www.romuva.lt/new/uploads/Literat%C5%ABra/Baltic%20religion%20EN%20www.pdf

And of course, Romuva's website in English:
http://romuva.lt/en.html

Romuva USA/Canada tripod website, not sure how updated/accurate things are:
http://romuva.tripod.com/

General Baltic:
http://www.lithuanian.net/mitai/cosmos/baltai.htm

A brief overview of the revival by Romuva's founder:
http://www.infinityfoundation.com/mandala/h_es/h_es_trink_j_baltic_frameset.htm

An article on Velines, the Baltic Day of the Dead that takes place November 1-2.

I’ve been meaning to post these notes on Kotsiubynsky’s novel “Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors.” While the novel is fictional, it draws heavily upon the folk beliefs of the Hutsuls or Carpathian highlanders. These notes give a good overview of their beliefs.
