Need help with my Pagan garden
« on: April 27, 2014, 11:14:47 pm »
Hello everyone.  I am looking for some help with my garden plans in the form of plant types.  I am planning on three seperate gardens.  If you could please list the plants you would want in each and why it would be a huge help!

Kitchen Herb garden

I already have Dill, rosemary, Basil, CHives, Cilantro, Mint (severl varieties), Marjoram, Oregano, Parsley, Sage, & Tyme.  Is there anything else I should include?

Medicinal Garden

My plan is to include Chamomile, Lavender, Echinacea, st. johns wart, marigolds
any other sujestions are greatly apriciated!

The lat garden i am planninhg is a bit of a toss up between a 'magick' garden and a goddess/god garden.  What plants would you incluse in either?

Thanks!

It depends on your magical intent and/or the deity/spirit you wish to honor. I'm currently building a fairy and butterfly garden in one corner of my house, and there are numerous plants that attract both magical and mundane winged creatures. Here's my thread on it: http:// http://www.ecauldron.com/forum/showthread.php?9419-Fairy-Garden&highlight=fairy+garden (sorry if it doesn't work, I'm on Tapatalk)

If you're looking for a certain goal (like protection, happiness, etc.), I've found that Scott Cunningham's Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs is a good reference.

I've moved this to the 'Home and Garden' forum, because you will likely get more, and more useful, responses there.

Any advice I give would be climate-dependent.  Can you give me a general idea of where you live and what you're climate's like?

...

I'll second yarrow, and add shepherd's purse.

For kitchen herbs, lemon- or lime-balm, and as many mints as possible (although all of these are invasive so you might want to use containers so they don't invade your other gardens).

Wormwood, absolutely. Artemesia absythium. It has an amazing scent, but even more amazing magickal properties. Not only that, but it will protect and assist fruit trees. Excellent plant for a magickal garden.

Hollyhock, not the modern doubles, the wild singles. Black Hollyhcoks are stunning and they will readily self-seed once established. Hollowhocks bring luck and success to hearth and home. They also have medicinal uses.

Lunaria, adding the moon element to your garden with the seed pods.

I would also plant woodruff - if you can get it.
