Hello :)

For me, centering is knowing what's me, and what's not me, and how I relate to the rest of the universe, and then forming a connection between what is me, and what is not me in a controlled fashion.

Grounding is the process of letting energies balance back to their natural level - it can be letting go of excess energy, but it might also be drawing in energy from a large and generous source, if I'm lacking.

How I do it mostly intuitive these days (multiple years of regular practice help with that), but when I do a more extended method, I usually do a 'roots down into the earth, energy reaching up to the sky, stuff meets in the middle' version.

I've got more on both on my website, in case various of the exercises are helpful to you. (One addition I want to make to both pages is more sensory forms of doing this kind of work: I tend to hear energy, and I know what being grounded sounds like for me, but I have trouble describing it for other people, for example. So I'm still trying to figure out how to add those explanations.)

And two other pages that might be helpful to you are energy theory (http://gleewood.org/seeking/practices/energy-and-you) and learning modes (http://gleewood.org/seeking/practices/ways-you-learn/)

Hello :)

I like Gede Parma's way of doing it:

Quote
I

Begin by closing your eyes and opening yourself to the sounds and rhythms all around you. As you breathe deeply in, you realise that these sounds form patterns and are, in truth, in harmony with one another. Delve deeper into the pattern to find the rhythm that inspires it. Let this rhythm be that of your breath as you inhale and exhale, breathing in the white light of the universe and releasing, as you exhale, all the stresses and anxieties of the day. You are here, in the now.

II

Now focus on your feet (or the base of your spine-whatever body part is touching the ground), and feel and see strong roots pushing through the layers of soil and earth, through the veins of minerals and chthonic water, until they reach the heart of the Mother herself. The molten heart-fire from this sacred place rushes up your roots and into your body, where it settles there as the dark earth light of the Mother, grounding and nurturing.

III

Now focus on your crown. In your mind's eye, your body is, in fact, the
trunk of an ancient tree, and your consciousness now follows the path of your woven branches into the sky realms. Here, the bright white light of the heavens enters your branches like lightning, like quicksilver, and pours into your body, mixing with the dark earth energy. They meet and marry and are one within you, as they always have been. You are their child - a mighty pillar between heaven and earth. Blessed be.
