Description:
Kuan Yin is the most important, best-loved deity in the Chinese world. She is the living expression of compassion and the center of devotion in most Chinese homes and workplaces. Yet she is barely known in the West. The authors of The Kuan Yin Chronicles introduce Kuan Yin to Western readers, and reveal that Kuan Yin is the mystery and power of the divine feminine, who transcends all doctrines, creeds, and traditions. The book is divided into three sections:

1. The origins and evolution of Kuan Yin in early China, Buddhism, Taoism, and shamanism.

2. The myths and stories about Kuan Yin.

3. Fresh translations of 100 Kuan Yin poems, which function as both literature and tools for divination and prophecy.

The Kuan Yin Chronicles is for any Western reader who wants to connect with the ancient power of the Goddess in their lives.

This is the first book I've read about Quan Yin. It goes into great detail about the history and origins of Her in mainly China, but also the spread into the rest of the Eastern world. It also has a few myths/stories, including a creation myth, which is my favourite.

Very quick summary of the creation myth:
After all the animals were created, Quan Yin taught them how to live in harmony. If they had a problem, they'd take it to Quan Yin, who would sort it out. Eventually, She had to leave and go back to Heaven. The animals tried to get along as if She were there, but it didn't work. So Quan Yin came back and sorted everything out, then left again. This happens two or three times until finally She says, "My friends, it is obvious that I cannot be with you at all times. But it is also clear that you need me to watch over you in some way. So I have resolved upon this action." She swept her hands over a large-but-dull-looking bird, and it was instantly "suffused in exploding colors and lights, so bright that the other animals had to avert their eyes... On each of the one hundred tail feathers of the bird was now a bright clear eye staring back at them." Oh, hey! Peacock! Servant of Quan Yin and meant to keep an eye on everything going on on Earth.

That story is my favourite because I have a peacock feather tattooed on my collarbone. But I got that tattoo long before I read this story. So not only is my peacock feather a reminder of the ability to overcome anything, it's also a reminder that Quan Yin is always watching over me. :) (If you wanna know more about my tat, PM me.)

The book also has "The Poems of Kuan Yin," 100 poems translated from Chinese that are used as divination in Chinese temples. I haven't delved too far into those yet, as I'm not too great at interpreting poetry. But maybe I'll set aside a day to attempt it. :p
