Just finished reading the Sweep series by Cate Tiernan. Those books hold a special nostalgic place in my heart :whis:

Ooh, I listen to his podcast. How is it? Chaos magic isn't my thing, but I've been curious.

Well, I've only just started, but I am actually paying attention to an explanation of world economics. Considering how fucking dull and confusing I normally find that sort of thing, I'd say it speaks well of the book so far.

(I am biased since I do quite like Gordon's writing - and podcast - even when I don't agree with his theories. A lot of chaos magic is frankly kinda stagnant, but not his.)

I don't always agree either, but he's never boring and I never think his ideas sound woo-ish or totally ungrounded in research and reality.

When I get through the pile of reading I've already assigned to myself, I might have to tackle Chaos Protocols.

I finally got around to reading The Martian ... it was knuckle-biting, hilarious, and all-around awesome.

The first rule about the book I'm reading is I can't talk about the book I'm reading.  :ange:
You have my sword
And my shield
And my... um... slacks.

Currently reading Dawn by Octavia E. Butler. On Audible I'm listening to 'From Jesus to Constantine: a history of early christianity' by Bart Ehrman.

Because someone had to restart this thread after the move.  What are you reading, how is it, and would you recommend it?

For fun:

Smoke Gets in Your Eyes: And Other Lessons from the Crematory by Doughty. It's not the best writing ever by any means, but I like the author's attitudes on death and it definitely relates interesting facts and experiences. I'd recommend it.

For school:

The Silence of the Lambs by Harris. I can see why this book became a classic, it really is very good. There are a lot of good scenes and it's well-paced with great characters.

Jane Eyre I'm only on the second chapter. I'm trying really hard to like it. Can't say if I recommend it yet.

Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins. I'm only about a quarter of the way through the book, but so far the character development is awesome.

I finally bought Tarot Wisdom by Rachel Pollack. I've been reading it one segment at a time, but not in order. I really like it as a reference, but it's also an inspiring read.
