Breakfast
« on: May 17, 2013, 09:13:02 pm »
Since in my new job I am responsible for coming up with breakfast specials, I am looking for some ideas.

So do tell, what is your favourite breakfast?

(and no I am not looking for SPAM recipes) ;)

Really?  So, hey, want to go fishing?  I\'ve got a telescope, and it\'s going to be a dark night, so we should see the fish really well.
...what, I\'m not talking about fishing?  That\'s stargazing?  It\'s all doing-stuff, so it\'s the same thing, right?

Skillets.  Love the skillets.

Also, there's a local cafe that makes incredible biscuits & gravy, with a fluffy scrambled egg plunked down right on top of 'em.  A little pepper, Tapatio, black coffee.... Mmm mmm mmm.

In the UK, I eat 'full English' breakfasts - bacon, sausages, eggs (usually fried), mushrooms, sometimes tomatoes, sometimes baked beans... But I do miss the US and pancake stacks. They are good with scrambled eggs and bacon or sausage on the side.

You don't wanna hear mine.  It's probably homemade kimchi (with extra fish sauce!) and ramen.  I don't care cheap the specials are, that's not gonna fly.  ;)

Mushrooms (fried/sauteed) on toast, with hash browns and bacon (or sausage or ham).

I'm quite fond of being able to get beef sausage rather than pork sausage with my brekkie; also, of breakfast steaks - either grilled or country-fried.

Potato pancakes!  Or (and I don't think I've ever seen this in a restaurant, but it's not uncommon as an at-home 'full breakfast' item) mashed-potato patties.

I am quite fond of so-called 'breakfast' foods, whether or not it's 'breakfast time' by either the clock or the schedule I'm on (and by the same token, don't insist on conventional breakfast foods when I awaken).  I've been puzzled since I was a child by cultural insistence that certain foods can only be eaten at certain times of the day.

'All-day breakfast' is a very common thing here. You don't have to look too hard to find a good fry-up at any time of the day. :D

Likewise here - though it hasn't always been as easy as it is now.

Wow, I seem to be the oddball here. >.>

So in mornings my belly doesn't generally like attention... at all. I don't even tend to get hungry until somewhere in the early afternoon, but by then I've already likely put in 5-8 hours at work and it's an issue...

Eggs and fry-ups (while I love them during the afternoon) don't sit well with me so early, and the only things I've ever found that work are mild, light foods.

So, pastries, tea, fruit, cheese, sometimes coffee. Things like biscotti and coffee are a good combo for me in the morning. (I know, I'm weird).

I also like the full English breakfast.

Here it is mostly just coffee and bread with butter and marmelade.

Same here; at home I usually stick to tea, yogurt and a peanut butter sandwich (sometimes hummus to change things up).

When I'm on vacation, which for me usually involves increased physical activities, I'll usually eat a heavier breakfast. I love the breakfast buffets in European hotels that have like 6 kinds of bread and a cold cut platter.

I once found a bakery near the hotel I was staying, which sold these little puff pastry things, kind of like turnovers, with a slice of ham and an egg baked in them. If those were sold around here I would totally buy them.

And how is the  breakfast in a Canadian Hotel?

I love breakfast food but I usually eat it for like lunch. Lol. I love biscuits and gravy, pancakes, hash browns, sausage. You know what is good? Omelette muffins. You use a muffin tin, put whatever omelette ingredients you like in it, the pour the eggs on top and bake.

Not much help here. I don't normally eat when I first get up. At most, I have a big glass of milk (16 oz) and a slice of cheddar. That's actually a lot of calories, but I wouldn't call it a full fry-up. :p Usually though, I just take my pills with about 12oz of milk.
