What culture is this myth from?
« on: March 17, 2013, 09:47:41 pm »
I remember being told a creation myth a long time ago.  Recently I tried to look it up; I remembered it as Hopi, but it doesn't actually seem to be, so now I'm unsure where to look for it.

As I remember it, the myth goes like this:

The gods created the first man out of clay.  But there was something unsatisfactory about him, so they tore him to pieces and started again.  I think this theme went through several repetitions with different materials --- I remember there being wood people --- with the gods destroying the proto-humans in the end, until finally they got the idea to make humans out of flesh, thus creating the present world.

Sound familiar?
