The Cauldron Brighid Devotional: Call for Submissions!
« on: October 30, 2012, 08:24:05 pm »
She is the patroness of poets and Ireland, of fire, water, healing, social justice, and creation. She is the Lady of the Hearth, of the Forge, and of the Stars. She is a saint and goddess beloved the world over, and inspires all of her dedicants with creativity and love. Her devotees are many and diverse, but all of them have one thing in common: Her.

The Cauldron Cill is pleased to announce a forthcoming devotional anthology to Our Lady Brighid gathered from her many devotees here at The Cauldron, celebrating her inspiration and showcasing the many talents she gifts us with.

We are interested in a wide variety of pieces, including (but not limited to) personal essays, scholarly articles, short fiction, poetry, hymns, rituals, recipes, and artwork that pertains to Brighid. Note that anyone registered at The Cauldron who serves Brighid as Goddess or who honor her as Saint are welcome to submit their work.

All works must be original, not public domain. No plagiarism! Previously published submissions are acceptable, provided the author retains all rights to the work. Authors retain all rights to the submission. Upon acceptance, the author will be sent a permission to publish form along with a request for a short biography to include in the anthology.

The editors reserve the right to make any minor changes in the case of grammar, spelling and formatting concerns, or to request modification of submissions for inclusion.

No monetary compensation will be provided. Proceeds from all sales will be donated to The Cauldron towards its server maintenance and costs.

No limitations on length, and the submissions period will run from October 31 2012 – February 2 2013. Release date will be forthcoming.

Please send your submission as a .doc/.docx or plain text/RTF attachment with “TC Brighid Devotional” in the subject line to thecauldroncill@gmail.com. Any artwork submitted should be scanned in or created at high quality resolution and sent as a JPEG or TIF file, no larger than 12" x 12", please.

Please remember to include a by-line in your email: your name as you would like it to appear in the book!

We thank you for your contribution towards the celebration of Our Lady, her devotees, and her inspiration!

--The Cauldron Cill

Bump!  I will likely be doing this around the beginning of every month until our deadline. Just reminding you that we are open for submissions: if you're working on them, keep on keepin' on.

We did!

Just as an FYI, I haven't sent out replies to anyone saying, "we got this," because I... just haven't?  I can do that when we tally everything together at the end of the submissions period.

So if anyone else was wondering the same thing--uh, expect a note in February. :)

I didn't manage to write much because I've been stressed out by work lately, but there's a short and simple poem which popped into my mind last week while I was in the metro...just submitted it.

How many contribution do we have now?

Not many. (Sorry for not disclosing a real number: for some reason I don't feel quite right saying exactly how many)

Not enough!  Keep on submitting, guys! :)

An update:

Aster, Juni, and I have decided to extend our submission deadline! We know that a lot of people who want to submit have just been swamped, and we want to give everyone the chance to showcase their work.

Our next official deadline will be May 1, 2013 (Bealtaine).  Please refer to the first post in this thread for all submissions guidelines.

All works must be original, not public domain. No plagiarism!

Clarification question:  Submissions can include quotes from public domain works, correct?  F'ex, I can quote a prayer from the Carmina Gaedelica in my essay about Brighid's historical roots, yes?

Just checking.

Thanks.

Absolutely. It'd be nice to indicate it as such, either in the text of the article or at the end in a bibliography or notes page.

I just realized my original phrasing is not very clear or very helpful at all! Let's try again:

All works need to be original. Information used to compose your pieces can include references taken from anything, public domain or not, so long as they are referenced as such.

TL;DR: Cite your references, don't steal and try to pass off stuff that's not yours as yours. :p

I wrote a couple of prayers for her a while ago, would they be suitable?
One was a gratitude prayer and one was kind of a grief work chant
