This analyzer supposedly tells you which famous authors best match your writing style:

An article I wrote a while back gave me L Frank Baum.  A piece of poetry got me Shakespeare, and another bit of poetry got me James Joyce.

I'm not entirely sure how accurate this thing is. It doesn't seem to have that big of a pool of authors, judging from the responses on this thread. It's still fun, though.

My blog sounded like Cory Doctorow (no real surprise there; I have been an off-and-on glutton of Boing Boing posts for years), and a few pages of a novel draft sounded like Chuck Palahniuk.

A novel that I play with from time to time got these results: Chapter 1 first 5 paragraphs---Daniel Defoe Chapter two also first five or so paragraphs J. R. R. Tolkien. Amusing,  I wonder how much text you can enter. I have about the first five chapters written, but only the first two entered on my computer.
Cool I got J. R. R. Tolkien too! Well on my 4th short story, my first story came up as James Joyce, 2nd came up as Mario Puzo and my 3rd again came up like J. R. R. Tolkien.

Huh.

This post-apoc thing I'm working on is in the style of Chuck Pahlaniuk, apparently.

But then this fantasy thing I've got going is Lovecraftian, but I'd meant to write it as YA and read it to my kids.

I just might tell them that one night.

True story: I have a Cthulhu plushie in the car.  (What? His Madness likes to go for rides.)  The kids used to take turns cuddling him.  (He will cuddle your soul!)
To the Girl, he was The Fwoggy.  To the Boy: The Dwagon.
Took em a while to get close to "C'fooloo".  They'll get it right if the madness doesn't take them first.

The best part is when they bring me bedtime story picks.
Daddy cries proud daddy tears when The Girl picks C is for Cthulhu.  Or when The Boy picks this Littlest Lovecraft classic.

Of anyone on this forum, you'd appreciate this bit the best.  I used to read 'em Help, Mom! There Are Liberals Under My Bed!
Madame Wife would roll her eyes when we reached for that one.

And my... um... slacks.

Nice - I got Sir Arthur Conan Doyle on the first one and Edgar Allen Poe with the second piece.
