Have you about had your fill of "The world is going to end on the Winter Solstice of 2012"? Yeah, me too. That is why I had about decided to give this book a pass. But then I got a special request to do a review (and I hate to turn down requests).
The one thing that we "know" for sure (based on interpretations of a dead language, recorded in incomplete inscriptions, on a few monuments) is that "something" will happen of December 21, 2012. It could be: A) the end of the world; B) the end of civilization; C) the end of mankind; D) The onset of world-wide cataclysms; E) the dawning of a new Golden Age for mankind; F) a combination of any or all of the above; or G) something else entirely. Now that we know what to expect (??!!), let's begin to prepare to deal with it.
Having endured the whole Y2K debacle (promulgated by "experts" who knew the probabilities and STILL blew the predictions), I tend to take apocalyptic predictions of specific dates and times - dawn of the Winter Solstice in what time zone, on which side of the International Dateline? - with more than a grain of salt.
Regardless of my personal feelings about apocalyptic writings, Mr. Joseph has assembled an impressive array of details, some of which have been drawn from almost forgotten sources. For more than a decade he was the editor in chief of Ancient American magazine (1993 to 2009), and has written several books on lost civilizations.
A major portion of this book is dedicated to the continents of Atlantis and Lemuria, and assembles information from both classical and modern sources. Mr. Joseph is, without a doubt, one of the foremost writers on lost civilizations, and makes it easy to follow and understand his reasoning.
Whether or not you believe in these continents; whether or not you believe we are living in "end times"; you can find something of interest within these covers. Pick up a copy.
