True, but he worked at it and actually came back quite a bit from a pretty severe stroke.

Yep.  I remember seeing him on TV doing one of his most recent New Year's shows.  
I admired him for having the fortitude to keep on and do his job, and at the same time I felt badly for him, because it sure looked like he was really struggling.

It did. I felt a bit older the last time I saw him. I used to rock out to Bandstand. Stubbed my toe on many an ottoman.

He and my other childhood rock out companion, Don Cornelius, both passed away this year. I like to imagine them planning how to get the booties shaking there.
