Book of Shadows Engraved
« on: February 25, 2012, 06:32:24 am »
Hi all,
I have just finished making another Book of Shadows. Instead of carving, I engraved the pattern. I think carving looks better but engraving doesn't take as long. Thanks for looking

It looks nice. Will it actually stand open like that? That would be useful.

How beautiful! What's the cover made of?
The first song sets the wheel in motion / The second is a song of love / The third song tells of Her devotion / The fourth cries joy from the sky above
The fifth song binds our fate to silence / and bids us live each moment well / The sixth unleashes rage and violence / The seventh song has truth to tell
The last song echoes through the ages / to ask its question all night long / And close the circle on these pages / These, the metamythos songs

Yes it does stand like that. There are no supports holding it up

Hi, it is made of MDF and stained with acrylic paint and linseed oil. All the metal work is made of solid brass

That's really nifty -- and in a useful way.

Thanks RandallS, nice of you to say so.

Yet another book, planning on going to a market to sell my books, I have never had a market stall before so not sure what I should or shouldn't do nor am I sure what prices to put on things. Well time will tell.

We vend at ren faires and pirate festivals.  Several things to think of:
Do you want dirty hands touching everything?  Perhaps a sample out front and the others displayed where you have to get them for the interested person.  And beable to dust and clean your product as needed.

Don't short yourself money wise - remember there are costs for that market booth and getting there.

Bring food and drink unless you are certain those will be provided and to your taste/needs.

If you man the stall alone, who will give you bathroom breaks?

Wear something you can be comfortable in even if you have to wear a costume.

Have a chair available for slow times and if you are going to be there all day.

Shade and rain protection are a must - most pop-ups provide that.  But remember the possibility of blowing rain and have side protection available.
Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.

Thank you so much for the feedback. Some things to think about, especially dirty hand touching the pages of books

Thanks again for the info, I went to a market last week and sold one book for $250 so it was worth the effort.

I have completed a new book for a customer just a couple of days ago. The images used are what the customer gave me and I finished off the design with some hand painting in gold leaf. I think this book of shadows is my best to date.

This one is lovely. And it stands!

I am at your website now. I think those prices are very reasonable for one of a kind books.  Very glad you posted this.

Wow. That sure is nice. Far too busy for me personally, but very nicely executed.
