Overall, a pretty good speech. Best part: When he took on the "class warfare" meme head on.
The first song sets the wheel in motion / The second is a song of love / The third song tells of Her devotion / The fourth cries joy from the sky above
The fifth song binds our fate to silence / and bids us live each moment well / The sixth unleashes rage and violence / The seventh song has truth to tell
The last song echoes through the ages / to ask its question all night long / And close the circle on these pages / These, the metamythos songs

I found the Republican reaction, both before and after the speech annoying as it seems to boil down to "since the president will not support our extreme conservative ideas 100% he is the cause of all political divisiveness in the country."

I said, even before the election, that the Republicans were going to do everything in their power to prevent Obama from making things any better

As if there wasn't political divisiveness before Obama took office:56:

Some have admitted that that is the plan. Solutions can only be allowed when Republicans are in power. Otherwise, even if the solution is basically their own plan it should not be approved. As far as I can tell, these folks don't give a damn about America -- or at least they don't care nearly as much about America as they care about being in power.

I'm a "power reader", meaning, it's hard to say what I'm reading about at any given time during any gven part of the day.

I recently read about the time period of Hitler coming into power. Interestingly enough, there are many parallels between the current thought process of the extreme conservatives and the Nazi train of thought.

To stay on track with the thread, I was impressed with what Mr. Obama said in his speech and I support the aspects of his speech. I however cannot support some of the things he doesn't talk about such as gun control. I have a CCDW and only support gun control to a samll extent. I'm not in favor of allowing those convicted of violent crimes to own firearms. Mr Obama is in favor of restricting firearm ownership which follows traditional Democrat thoght. My 9 is my protection charm and does tend to work like a charm.:whis:

Gun control only seems to be trotted out when it is needed, but there really isn't much ever done about it.  Lots of talk and little action.  I think too many people in this country own guns (who are not criminals or felons) to make restricting them at all easy.
Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.

Plus there is only so much you can do short of trying to change the Constitution.

True.  Not that I'm complaining since we have a gun safe full!

BTW, Starbucks for Valentine's Day. An anti-gun group is planning a boycott of Starbucks, so gun rights supports are planning on buying coffee there as a counter boycott.
