We have a Google doc with a list of symbols and meanings, but it is still in progress. I will be going through the list, writing up more complete descriptions and meanings for each card, and then sharing that work with whoever is interested for review.

The Google doc (a work in progress) is here: http://ow.ly/4vxMH
I'll be posting the full descriptions and meanings to my blog, and then updating here when something new is published.

If anyone is interested in designing FlameKeeping appropriate spreads, that would be super helpful! If you'd like to help in any other way, let me know!

The entire thread is here.  I thought we could pick up from where we left off.

My plan is to move the list to a wiki here on New TC. My list of symbols has been changing a lot as I work through essays, so I have put the project in a holding pattern. I think about it a lot though, and definitely want to work on it more!

Couple of thoughts I had overnight -

I think the forest fire card should have the meanings reversed.  Upright is beyond your control, reversed is that you can mitigate it.  And it doesn't really need a lamp - the entire THING is on fire!

I think there should be a toybox card.  For when it's time to just play and let go.  Reversed, stop screwing around.

Snarl.  Showing a nasty pile of tangled yarn.  Upright: you've got to carefully pick your way out of this.  Reversed: there's nothing to do but chop your way out and deal with the damage caused.

Which means it is a good idea for you to do the community project Veggie assigned you!

The cards weren't snarky to Helms, interestingly.

I'd be interested in helping with art once you get to that stage. I'm still reading up on FlameKeeping, but I'm really impressed with what I've read so far. Until then, I'll keep reading up on everything and see if I can't offer input on the deck itself.

OK, peoples. The current list of 21 cards is updated here: http://fiersflame.wordpress.com/oracle/card-list/

You can click on each card and get a description of the imagery and meanings. I encourage anyone who is interested in this project to make up their own deck and play around. See what works and what doesn't. What meanings need to be modified, and what cards are missing. Post new card ideas in this thread.

Come up with spread ideas if that's your thing.

Take a look at the imagery descriptions and, if you are an artist, see if you are interested in creating any of the art. (Devo, I'm looking at you. :D:) Here's a quick note about the lantern:
Quote
Nearly every card displays the lantern. We aren’t sure what the lantern should look like yet, other than it should be copper, and be the same in every card. The lantern is always lit unless the card says otherwise. In some cards it is polished, while in others it is dingy and tarnished.

Once we have our SIG blog up and running, I will move the card list/descriptions over to it and then we should all be able to add and edit.

Yay!

Yay!

Looking through the imagery. I has question:

http://fiersflame.wordpress.com/oracle/card-list/scale/
http://fiersflame.wordpress.com/oracle/card-list/lighthouse/
http://fiersflame.wordpress.com/oracle/card-list/exercise-bike/
http://fiersflame.wordpress.com/oracle/card-list/unicorn/

For these cards, where would the lantern go? Is it a case of 'wherever feels best'?
I know originally this was going to be a case of everyone creates work for the cards, so would it be a good idea to potentially post different pictures of lanterns so we can pick one?

Just tossing out ideas.

I don't think the lantern is in the scale or the lighthouse card. (The lighthouse kind of IS the lantern, there.) I am not sure about the other two....

I like the globe shaped glass of the lanterns on this page: http://railroadiana.org/lanterns/pgLanterns_Oddities.php

Or, just google 'railroad lanterns'. Lots of neat ideas.

That's cool, I was just checking. I'll let my brain mull it over for a bit. I do like the imagery thus far, though. The cards seem so much  more concise than a regular tarot, which is nice.

One other question- any idea on what size you were thinking of? I asked this in chat, and I don't remember the answer. I think it was a 'standard' size... but I don't know what equals 'standard' lol.

I was thinking that the cards would be available for download and then one could print them off at home. I thought we could have 3 different sizes available, so that people could choose the size they felt the most comfortable with. The largest would be 4x6. (Then 3x5 and 3.5x2 'travel size'!)

The other thought I had is that the cards might be laid out landscape instead of portrait. That was just based off how the images are pictured in my head though. They seem more landscape images to me. What do you think?
