The Wicker Tree
« on: December 03, 2011, 03:56:16 am »
Has anyone heard of or seen this film? It is supposed to be the squeal to the 1973 Wicker Man. I watch the trailer, and it seems like their back to making us Celtic Pagans out to be killers again.

just imdb'd it.  the main bad guy is Dwalin from the new hobbit movies.  Yes, given it's a wicker man sequel by the same guy who made the original, and it's supposed to be a horror movie, what did you expect?

I've never heard of it. I liked the original Wicker Man movie. I don't know that a sequel would make a lot of sense. Sequels to horror movies seldom do, IMHO.

It's been in the works for a while now, Sean Austin (Samwise) was originally attached to play the male christian and it was tentatively called Cowboys for Christ.  That since fell through and the name changed, but the basic idea didn't.

I love the original Wicker Man and have it on DVD, so I watch it quite often. I don't think that a sequel would make a lot of sense, especially since the original movie is almost 40 years old.

Saw a teaser trailer just the other day.
Not a direct sequel, though.  This one is supposed to take place in Ireland and involve Celtic Gods and the 'Old Religion.'
Which Celtic Gods and which Old Religion.... well, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.  ;)
The trailer ain't half bad, imho.  I'm really interested because the creator of the original is involved with the project.  The original had a serious 70s folk-hippie vibe going on in it (part of its charm, too) and I'm curious to see what this kind of movie will look like almost 40 years after its predecessor.
Best case: it'll be, in its own way as great as the underrated original.  (See the 'extended cut' if you can-- there are some really great bits were put back.)  Worst case: it'll suck harder than Nic Cage's re-imagining of the original.  Most likely: it'll be mildly interesting in its own right, with 21st century pagan folk tunes, with a 'shock' ending like the original.  (gee... ya think?)

Those of us who adore terrible movies are offended by your characterization of this masterpiece.  It's comedy gold.

The best part of that scene (in my humble opinion, naturally) is that the bees, I believe, are CG.  So in reality it was just Nicholas Cage with a cage on his head (hmmm) screaming about bees.  Somehow that makes it even funnier.

I forgot about the bear-punch scene.  I just LOLd all over again.
