Can someone teach me how to put multiple quotes in a reply?
« on: October 05, 2011, 03:19:03 pm »
I've seen people put multiple quotes, or several quotes from several different people, in replies. Do you know what I'm talking about? I have no idea how to do this. Can someone teach me please?

It's easy. All you have to do is use [ q u o t e ]  (no spaces) before the beginning of what you want to quote and [ / q u o t e ] (no spaces) at the end of what you want to quote.

I'll give you and example: [ q u o t e ] = beginning quote [ / q u o t e ] = end quote (no spaces)

The Cat in the Hat. One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish. Green Eggs and Ham.

To do the first quote you put [ q u o t e ] before the word "The," and [ / q u o t e ] after the word "Hat."

To do the second quote you would put the beginning quote symbols before the word "One," and the end quote symbols after the word "Fish." To do the third quote you put the beginning quote symbols before the word "Green," and the end quote symbols after the word "Ham."

Quote
The Cat in the Hat.

then you type between what you quoted

Quote
One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish.

like this

Quote
Green Eggs and Ham.

And it's easier if the separate quotes are on separate lines

But what if they are quotes from different people?

I've never needed to do that before. Let me see if I can figure it out.

To be honest, we strongly prefer multiple replies with each reply being to one person. ("Double Posting" is not an issue at TC.) There is a "multiquote" feature in vBulletin, but we'd prefer it not be used in most cases as it makes discussions much harder to follow.

There are a few times where it can be useful (quoting multiple posts by the same person, for example), but more often than not it is just confusing to readers.

LOL it's ok. I was just proud of myself for figuring it out. I never quote multiple posters in the same reply anyway....too much work!
