Rhyming Thesaurus?
« on: April 20, 2017, 08:22:30 pm »
I am not good at figuring out rhyming words when crafting spells.  I once saw a book that was sort of a thesaurus for words that can be used to rhyme with other words and hold the same meaning.  Don't know how else to describe this book.

Has anyone got a clue as to what book I may be referring to?

A rhyming dictionary? I had one called "Flip dictionary" from writer's digest.

KARMA: You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

When looking for rhymes I frankly just use http://rhymezone.com/ but that doesn't do meanings.

It was pretty essential when I was writing the Traveller's Guide though, heh.  (Which is... probably the only time I've cared about rhymes in spells, for the record, and that's because most of them are sonnets.)

I'll check it out.  I'm kicking myself for not ordering that book when I first saw it.

Thanks for the information.  I just find it easier for me to remember my spells if I rhyme them.  Still learning after all.

Flip Dictionary is awesome but it's not a rhyming dictionary. It's a dictionary for when you have something on the tip of your tongue but can't figure it out. It also has groupings of things, such as "herbs" or "legal terms" or "military terms". More like a super-powered thesaurus.

As a writer I find it very useful, but I've never used it to find a rhyme.

Huh. I could've sworn it was a rhyming dictionary as well. Thanks for the heads up. It's been 10 years since I actually owned it!

Collins, Merriam-Webster and Schirmer all have rhyming dictionaries. There are even more dubbed songwriters' dictionaries. Look around Amazon and pick whichever sounds best. Or the cheapest. Whatever works.

Good to know.  I'll check into all of these.  And thanks to all for your responses.
