Old Gods or New?
« on: April 05, 2017, 04:04:34 pm »
Hello:
New poster here, but a very long time with alternative spirituality.
Reactivated a simmering interest in the spiritual path last year. Looked at many traditions and paths. I ended up working the Indian deity Kali because I had a strong pull toward her. Not an easy path because most of the material out there isn't in English. Likewise her followers have a very different background than my Western one.
Last fall I shifted to working a new deity, the Goddess Babalon, much beloved by Aleister Crowley and the Thelmites. After working with her for a good six months, I seem to have hit a brick wall. She's very primordial and hard to reach.
So right now I'm not sure if I should move back toward Kali, whom I never really abandoned, or continue with Babalon. It's a strange question to ask, but I felt this was the proper forum. In some ways they are very similar, but I try to avoid mixing them.
Would be grateful if anyone else has found themselves at a crossroad. Have people found its less difficult to work with deities from similar cultures?

I would ask why you feel the need to choose between them?

It is quite common to have multiple parallel practices if people feel the need.

Unless one of them objects, I don't see why you can't honor or work with both of them, as long as the practices are within the structures they're both associated with.

Communicating with Babalon and Kali would probably be the best thing to do, in order to see how they want you to proceed with your relationships with them. Sometimes, deities take a step back for whatever reason and may inexplicably reappear again.

Yes, I think that might be the solution. Last fall I had the distinct sensation the Mahadevayas (the ten forms of Kali) gave me their blessing that it was OK to work with Babalon.
