This is my trickster shrine, dedicated to El Ahrairah, The Pied Piper, The Doctor, (Pop culture paganism, yay!) and I'm going to make a small wire work spider for Anansi also.

its not a particularly clear picture but it also contains miniature dice, dominoes, and card pack. Its a repurposed Jewellery box

That's super neat! I never thought of using something like that.

I hope this worked, first time ever uploading attachments from my kindle. If it didn't show up, I'll try again.

As you can see totally empty & simple lol. I can't wait to have more space lol

I finally finished sorting out my altar/shrines, having had to leave behind my home (as well as the shrine I managed to set up using just cardboard boxes and an ikea shelf). My current setup should hopefully work well - I've even got a footstool to sit on in front of it, which is nice and much better for my headspace than a chair (who knows why).

From left to right you've got my shrine to Persephone & Hekate, my main altar for divination/magic/etc, my shrine to Himself, and then Brighid's shrine in the corner. I like using shelving units because it means I can store all my bits and pieces underneath, as well as my religious/magic books; so far I don't have those in place, but my decks are in the Mucha tin, and my bits of plants in the baskets.

Lit up in the dark.

A better shot of part of my Brighid shrine.

Thank you! I recently got a request to redo it, but I've yet to figure out how. I guess there needs to be more personality to it for Djehuty. Lol.

Here is my altar from tonight.

That is really beautiful!

Also, Liadine (dragonflyeyes) - lovely altar.

I don't have an altar though have set one up a few times for certain purposes and then taken them down. Your beautiful pictures are inspiring.

I would love some inspiration & ideas.

Hello,

I'm pretty new to the site, and have literally only just begun setting up my own altar during the past week.  So far it consists of a wide, shallow wooden bowl (this is to make it highly portable, since it has to be moved when the in-laws visit) with my little quartz crystal point/wand in the centre and some tea light candles.  I haven't even been able to decide on how many candles, and what configuration e.g. 5 pointed star, or just a square?

You'd think that as it has been anticipated for so long I'd be full of ideas, but not so...  But I am looking forward to building it up.  :)

My previous 'altar' had been just the bathroom windowsill, and consisted of all my candle holders, oil burners, a bowl with all my crystals in and one or two other things e.g a scarab beetle carving a close friend brought back for me from Egypt.  Mostly all those items ended up clustered on that windowsill when we moved to our current address to stop the cats jumping up on that windowsill (and trying to get out the second storey window!) but they've all remained there ever since.

Apologies for multiple posts - would've just edited but it said it'd been more than 10 minutes so I couldn't.

Unlike many other forums that have objections to (or even strict rules against) 'doubleposting', TC has no problem with people making two, or even more, posts in a row, and even encourages it in many cases - f'ex, instead of editing (we prefer that any edits made more than two or three minutes after posting be minor ones like correcting typos); or when you want to reply to several different posts.

So, no need to apologize; you did it exactly right!

inspiration & ideas

Since I last posted I got some inspiration - almost immediately afterwards, in fact.

I now also have the following:-
4 shallow glass tealight holders, but they're serving as little bowls instead right now - in each of them are i) little handful of nuts, along with the seed pod from one of my bathroom plants, a little cactus like succulent which has flowered every summer for the last three years (even though the poor thing doesn't look as though it's thriving too well); ii) cluster of 3 candles, one blue one green and one plain white; iii) half a soap nut berry; iv) tiny container of tiger balm.

The nuts & seed pod represent earth, and the nuts also represent nutrition.  The candles represent fire, as well as symbolically warmth & shelter.  The soap nut represents water & cleansing.  The tiger balm, because it's fragrant, represents air - also healing.  The green and blue candles represent the earth and the sky, and the plain one could maybe represent the sun.

I have a bigger chunk of quartz that I found with my dad in a dried up river bed whilst on holiday as a child, and I intend to cleanse it & place this within my altar arrangement.  It's probably my most treasured possession.

I am also considering digging out a photo I took as a child of trees, and placing this in the bottom of the bowl which makes up my (portable) altar.  Trees are very meaningful to me.

I may put in a few pendants I have which no longer have chains of their own (and I hardly ever wear jewellery any more) including e.g. a little owl, for wisdom.  I can't quite decide about that one though, because I bought that pendant at a time in my life when I was being quite, well, unwise so it doesn't necessarily have the best memories attached to it...

I'd like to try and find something to represent each branch of my family (maternal & paternal grandparents), but it needs to be small enough to fit so I'm still looking around/thinking.

Finally I have a little charm which I can barely even describe which I found at a flea market when I was a small child and purchased for 5p - it looks as though someone may have made it at home out of some sort of modelling clay.  I remember believing that it was a talisman which was going to help me to save the world and I always intended to make it into a pendant but I've come to accept that I'll probably never get round to it, and anyway I've a habit of losing things and I'd be really upset if I went out wearing this and lost it.

I will try and post a photo at some stage.
