Mine is kinda basic and eclectic because I don't exactly follow any pantheon or tradition, and is at the moment much more cluttered and disorganized than this photo because it's currently sharing space with stuff I brought back from college:

I've more than just updated since I last posted -- I've upgraded, big time! My altar has had its own dedicated table since September (what a wonderful use for a $20 IKEA end table!), and has had seasonal decor schemes. For the fall/winter cycle, I had a large wooden plate full of gourds and dried leaves at its midst. It's currently in the spring/summer configuration, with the waterfall and greenery being fairly recent changes. My broom is the most recent addition, and I absolutely adore it.

I cleaned and updated my altars and shrines today, so I'm reviving this thread to talk about it.

I moved recently, and as such I've completely redone my shrine to my gods. I may later swap out some items or tweak a few things, but the core of it should be pretty stable now:

  • Mask and phallus to represent Dionysos
  • Venus-rising-from-the-sea resin figure to represent Aphrodite; I may later add some embellishments to this to make it clear that the aspect I'm addressing is Ariadne, her syncretization with Persephone in the context of Dionysian myth
  • Action figure to represent their ex-mortal avatar in my practice (I may swap this out later for a more glamorous statuette, but the posability of this one is nice too)
  • Miniature pride flag repurposed as altar cloth

There's also some symbolic offerings: pornography, poetry, and a piece of lapis lazuli.

I'm hoping to have a small shrine with an actual altar outside once I set up my little garden, too.

I wasn't exactly sure where to post this, but this forum looked like a good catch all for everyone. Please forgive me if I was wrong.

I am in the middle of moving. Everything I own is packed up and will be being unpacked in my new place over the next week or two. My new apartment is much larger then my current one & so I am hoping to make some extra room for my altar & redesign it as more then a small shelf lol.

I would love some inspiration & ideas. So if anyone would love to share pics or descriptions of their altars it would be lovely. I always find it just amazing the beauty & creativity that go into some altars & shrines.

I don't have a real altar or shrine. i just started burning incense and making offerings a few months ago because my patrons asked for it. I use a dish I decorated myself a couple of years ago, and a simple tea light for burning incense. I couldn't find any statues I like so I use fridge magnets I bought on vacation.

I couldn't upload a picture so I give a link.

...

I can't remember where it was on this forum, but I thought I had posted a picture of my shrine in this thread. Guess not.

Images here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/9kLkdOaUEXRF4uQO2

The shrine is on top of our bedroom's radiator that I never turn on (perks of living higher up in a building). During the summer, I have the air conditioning in there as well, thus why you see in the right-hand window the exhaust for said appliance. In addition, we recently got rabbits - who are now squatting in that part of the bedroom. They're both included in the above album.

Most shrine work is done with whatever is on the Black shelf. On said shelf, from left to right, there is: sake shot glass; mini-cauldron; rock with a candle, black obsidian, and a copper ring with Celtic design on it; a jar filled with lapis lazuli, a rutilated quartz orb, sodalite, and possibly blue lace agate - which is currently filled with water; another mini-cauldron that I have with a lid, which is mostly used for disposal of materials. In front of the candle/rock assemblage are two rocks - a geode, and an amethyst - with my recent acquisition, an applewood wand.

On the window sill itself, there are a lot of stuff that will be going soon: I have a set of five Buddhas who I need to give to a friend; the box contains various incense; on top of the box is selenite; My four dragons; a vial of gemstones; a ceramic dish I made in high school that is now flaking apart (and will need to be purposed elsewhere); a perfect sized wine glass for my offerings; another shot glass; candle; and a woven basket that I made which houses the rest of the my crystal collection.

My shrine is to the Elemental forces of the universe: Earth; Water; Fire; and Air - and with the wand, now Spirit. I'm still trying to figure out who the heck are my patron Goddess and God, but once I do, I'll add a statue of them to this.

Also around the house - I unknowingly have set up altars to the Elements. In the living room, there's the plants on the window sill (Earth) and in the opposite corner, there's an aquarium with plants and fish (Water). In the Kitchen, is an Air and Fire shrine: lots of alcohol, and no matter what, there is always a strong breeze in that room, even on the quietest of days.

That's it for now!

The garden shrine/altar still has to wait till spring, but I've updated my main shrine.

I LOVE your altar!

Interesting, someone just posted a pic of that statue in the middle in one of my Facebook groups yesterday.

Thanks!

It's my idol of Aphrodite: a Design Toscano take on The Birth of Venus by Botticelli. I've noticed that if you're into the Renaissance aesthetic, there's a lot of good options for figures of Classical gods. Thanks, Renaissance!

Everyone has such lovely and interesting altars and shrines. I am really dragging my feet when it comes to mine. I am not sure why. I have a nice cedar chest that I am going to use and I have most of what I need to set it up....but I just can't. Has anyone ever experienced that?

I did, although a lot of it was a severe reluctance to just admit I'm some kind of magic-practicing pagan and designate an official space in the house. The cabinet i'd do my workings on top of is next to my desk, and right up until last week it would still get encroachments from my desk.  I finally set it up last week, and while I've been super busy and haven't done much on it aside from light some candles and meditate, it's been nice to have a official altar.

(It was an interesting experience... as I was cleaning it off and putting the cleaned objects back, I was getting actual physical feedback of "no, don't put that up here, put that in the drawer" or "that belongs on the right side." At one point, just for the sake of putting it SOMEWHERE while I looked for the clean sand, I put my dirty cauldron on the altar and got a sharp pain in my ear until I put it back on the floor. So there's definitely a greater connection to it and to my practice now.)

Wow, that is really awesome! I have decided to set mine up this weekend. I am a little nervous, but I feel that the time is right.

I have two cats, one in particular likes to push things off the furniture and then hide them under the furniture!  I finally came up with a mini-altar which is in a wide-ish wooden bowl, which in turn rests on top of a floor-standing candelabra (which didn't get used for burning candles because it's too near to some curtains & because cats).  It's also portable, so if the in-laws call round I can temporarily move it so it's not so visible.  I really need to post a picture so you can see what I've done, but I need to work out how to post pictures, oh and I need to take one first too.

So finally getting around to posting a picture of my not-exactly-altar.

Not sure how well it can be seen in this picture, but the bottom of the bowl is filled with glass nuggets to give something for the other items to sit on and not slide around.  The four tealight holders are not being used as tealight holders but contain things to represent the elements - green, blue, and white candles represent both fire and also land, sea and sky.  The little red object is tiger balm, representing air as I'm not really into incence.  Nuts represent the earth, and then the object closest to the camera is a fragment of a soap nut, to represent water without using actual water which would obviously evaporate.

In the centre is my quartz chunk along with a few other miscellaneous items - at present, a little pendant of a crystal flower which I bought in my early teens on my travels in Holland plus a crystal which I used to have hanging in the window until a cat happened to it.  There are usually some other odds and sods, but a cat happened to them too and they must've vanished beneath furniture as they've not yet turned up again since!  (Bless the little feline socks!)
