What do you with your offerings once you're done?
« on: January 19, 2017, 11:08:28 am »
Some people clean up differently, let's hear how you clean up the offerings once you are done.

Some just leave them for nature, others toss it in the trash. What do you do?

Liquid offerings?
Solid (food)?
Etc.

Liquid offerings are poured into the earth and food offerings left under either the oak tree or the ash for the local wildlife to clear away.

If I'm out and have been using tea lights as well then I take those home with me and the cases are recycled.

For food and drinks, I eat them after the ritual.

I also offer feathers, and when I have a few of those saved up I scatter them in the nearby river.

I usually pour the liquid on the earth, and food I leave under an oak tree in my backyard.

Depends on where I am, but taking them out of use for the mundane world is the common theme in the Germanic worldview. In the sources you can burn them, bury them, break them and throw them in a body of water, pour/put them on your god pole, sprinkle it on your altar/shrine, leave them out to be consumed by predators or any modern world equivalent. The important thing is that once offered they cannot be reused in the day to day world

Candle stubs and tealight cases go into the general rubbish, ashes and flowers into the composter. Simple.

Generally I use liquid offerings, so it soaks into the ground. However with other things generally I'd bury them if they won't get dug up by foxes (pretty much just composting same as Chatelaine said).  Tbh. things that wouldn't compost I probably wouldn't give as an offering, but if I was to, burning them would be my first port of call, followed by burying.

Yeah, like most people, I use liquid offerings most of the time.

When my kindred holds rituals in non-inclement weather, we do have a sacred fire going.  Solids like food or such are thrown into the fire.
