Mysterious Paper Sculptures

These are incredible. What a gift.

_______________________________

Those of you who don't keep up with Edinburgh's literary world through Twitter may have missed the recent spate of mysterious paper sculptures appearing around the city.

One day in March, staff at the Scottish Poetry Library came across a wonderful creation, left anonymously on a table in the library. Carved from paper, mounted on a book and with a tag addressed to @byleaveswelive - the library's Twitter account - reading:

It started with your name @byleaveswelive and became a tree.…
... We know that a library is so much more than a building full of books… a book is so much more than pages full of words.…
This is for you in support of libraries, books, words, ideas….. a gesture (poetic maybe?)

I saw these on Neil Gaiman's blog. Enchanting. Amazing. This is the sort of art I want to give to the world, and I don't mean necessarily the sort of medium (even though book art/sculpture is a deeply meaningful and compelling art form I want to master). I want to give gifts like this to show how much I love the written word and the book itself.

Wow, just wow.  I love the artistry and craftsmanship, I love the sentiment they express, I love what this mysterious paper-sculptor is doing with hir creations.

Those are beautiful! It almost hurts my heart that a book was sacrificed to make them (maybe I was a librarian in another life  ) but what a talent!!!
