Dia De Los Muertos
« on: October 30, 2016, 04:49:56 pm »
Is anyone going to "celebrate" ( for lack of a better term) Dia De los muertos?  What are you planning on doing?
I haven't found my path yet so I am just doing what I am comfortable with and what  I know.  This will be my first time. I feel very emotional  as I am grieving.

I might light a candle on All Souls Day (I'm not Mexican) and keep in mind everyone who's deceased and I appreciate or look up to.
I'm a simple person, and I like to think that spirits of the dead dont care if they're remembered quietly or with a full on festival. As long as it's genuine.
Naboo: This is black magic. This is hardcore. Don\'t mess with the occult.
Vince Noir: I thought it was good for you.
Naboo: What?
Vince Noir: Well, you know, good for your digestive system.
Naboo: That\'s Yakult!

No idea yet.  I'm Hispanic (Mexican actually) by way of heritage but, despite where I live, much of that culture is foreign to me.

I'll probably look for a public celebration and go attend that.

I'm from there also. I would have loved to go to a celebration down there but I moved north.

replying to my own  original post:
I made my altar, I used marigolds, candles, pictures, and I set up the incense .bowl of salt, and cup of water and a mexican flag banner instead of papel picado. I gave offerings of favorite foods.  I also played the  favorite music of my deceased loved one. I did good with what I could find on short notice.

I feel drained now.  I know its not really a pagan ritual but I feel like maybe I should have shielded and grounded myself. I ate after but it hasn't helped.

Grief is draining. Being tired after giving yourself over to remembering a loved one who has died is, in my experience, pretty normal.

Being gentle with yourself - eating things that work well with your body and are comforting, going to bed early, taking the rest of the day easily, are a good idea in general.

Thank you. I will take it easy and take a nap.
