A Simple Prayer
« on: October 25, 2016, 08:21:05 pm »
Hey all. I'm back. Well, I hope I'm back. I have a way of forgetting about forums.

Anyway, my coven has decided to do a year of rededication and "getting back to basics". I wanted to make tracking my Cills a part of that. I've never wholly ignored a Cill, but I haven't been as diligent as I'd like to be about formally marking them. I'm a part of two, this one here and one with ADF.

Does anyone have a simple prayer they use to mark the start/end of a shift? I'm looking for something short that I can add as a phone reminder for now and eventually be able to memorize. I can certainly write my own, but before I reinvent the wheel, I figured I'd see if anyone here had something put together already that they wouldn't mind me using.

Way back when the TC Cill was first getting started, Juni posted a piece that she'd adapted slightly from 'Circle Round and Sing' (the CD that goes with the classic 'Circle Round' songbook), and I've used it ever since to start my shifts:

Holy water, sacred flame,
Gracious Brigid, I call your name.
Bless my hands, my head, my heart:
Source of healing, song, and art.

We've a few threads about Cill liturgy, or in which it comes up, but though it's been intermittently discussed, we've never come to any kind of consensus, or even close (see also this and its preceding posts in the Schedule thread). You might find something useful if you scout around, though.

Or, Emerald once posted several of zir poems/prayers, some of which are to/about Brigid, in a thread in 'Art, Poetry, and Writing'; I liked this one well enough that I was thinking of using it as my end-of-shift liturgy (though I never got in that habit), but there are various others in that thread as well.

And of course there's the devotional the Cill published a few years back, which might have something - I don't have a link handy, but someone probably will (assuming you don't already have it).

It's around somewhere. The house is a bit of a mess and my ritual room has become the dump and split room. I'll look over those other bits in the post. On shift now, and as usual Brigid had me down for my nap when I came home from work... ;)

IOn shift now....

You seem to be a day early. Are you remembering that the date in the schedule is the day on which your shift starts, not the day on which most of it takes place?

I thought that was the other way around... that the shift started on sundown of the day before the date on the calendar? Am I all timey-wimey?

Apparently!

I recall that, when the Cill first started, there was a lot of discussion (and some confusion) about that, but we did manage to all get onto the same page. I would show you the discussion, except TC was still on Beehive at that time, and we no longer have that archive.

But, yes, we decided that 'sundown on the day listed in the roster' would be the less-confusing of the two options.

For starting and ending my shift I use a prayer that (I think) Aster posted somewhere:

Light me as your lantern,
Play me as your harp,
Keep me in your mantle,
And guide me to your hearth.

And at the start of my day, when I remember:

Lady Brighid as I go through my day, please,
Guide my feet that I may walk my path in balance,
Guide my hands that I may do your work in the world,
Guide my heart that I may show love and compassion,
Guide my mind that I may develop wisdom.
All in your honour, my Lady.

I shall adjust my Tardis accordingly.
