NaNoWriMo 2016
« on: October 24, 2016, 08:33:24 pm »
November is nearly here and that means it's time for National Novel Writing Month, also known as NaNoWriMo

For those who aren't familiar with it, NaNoWriMo is a month long writing challenge with a goal of writing a 50,000 word novel (or other writing project for those rebels out there who want to do their own thing).  Full details are available on the above link.

Who's participating this year and what will you be writing?

*insert sound of soft weeping*

So, um, yeah, I am planning on writing book 3 in a series this Nano.

Except I was going to finish book 2 this October.

Ask me how that's going.

So what I'll probably do is work on finishing book 2 for October and as much as November as it takes and then if I finish it in November start book 3. Which, not my original plan, but it seems like a lot of my life right now includes my original plans going out the window and down into the sewers, whisked out to the ocean where I'll never see them again.

Maybe someday I'll be in a place where I can actually start something new for Nano again.

I'm writing a Gothic/dreadpunk novel(la) set in a fictional universe with roughly mid 19th century tech. Still hammering out the premise but the concept was inspired by current research scientists are doing into "young" blood plasma and how it might benefit the elderly, and "what if someone discovered this property of blood plasma, but used alchemical magic to make it work?"

I'm thinking about signing up and working on a fantasy novella set in an arctic-like place.

Oh man.

I'd love to NaNo this year.  Got a really nasty guy-who-wakes-up-and-finds-out-he's-dead idea.  Working title is "Oh How the Dead Sing (and God is a Hammer)."
Problem is, I'm not sure if there's enough story to go 30 days without stretching & milking the fuck out of it.
Also, I've got this other thing that needs to be finished before I can switch gears.
You have my sword
And my shield
And my... um... slacks.

Accurate, although in my case it's mostly about writing a gothic that subverts some of the old tropes. Instead of steam tech I'm going for a popculture take on alchemy.

From Dreadpunk.com: "contemporary Gothic and Victorian-inspired Horror, Dark Fantasy, and Spooky Pop Culture."

Wow, looks like the ideas are flowing.  Would anyone care to divert some of that creativity over here?

I'm pantsing it this year, as I haven't had time to actually construct a plot or story idea.  I'm Darkling Sera over there if anyone wants another writing buddy.

I got a bunny for a steampunk fantasy two days ago and I have no idea what's going on so I'm going to try throwing words at it!

My Nano handle - since I actually signed up! - is lilairen.

I'm back for my eleventh attempt. Woo! I'm not even sure how to describe mine, but it's all Hekate's fault, and whether it tends more Hellenic demon hunter or apocafic, I honestly don't know. Right now, my protag has been given a spellbook, and told to visit the cemetery to clear out some ghosts. Yeah!

*flails a lot*

Anyway. This'll be fun, I'm sure. I'm Sashataakheru over there if anyone wants another buddy.
