The West Palm Beach Speech
« on: October 13, 2016, 08:58:30 pm »
Quote
This is not simply another four-year election. This is a crossroads in the history of our civilization that will determine whether or not we the people reclaim control over our government.

[...]

It’s a global power structure that is responsible for the economic decisions that have robbed our working class, stripped our country of its wealth and put that money into the pockets of a handful of large corporations and political entities.

[...]

The Clinton machine is at the center of this power structure. We’ve seen this first hand in the WikiLeaks documents, in which Hillary Clinton meets in secret with international banks to plot the destruction of U.S. sovereignty in order to enrich these global financial powers, her special interest friends and her donors.

[...]

Let’s be clear on one thing, the corporate media in our country is no longer involved in journalism. They’re a political special interest no different than any lobbyist or other financial entity with a total political agenda, and the agenda is not for you, it’s for themselves.

How dare we elect politicians with political experience to do politics!
KARMA: You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Yes, I've seen the commentary over Trump's supposed antisemitism with this speech. Having read the speech in full, and being not insensitive to antisemitism (as I hope would be obvious) I can see why some would think that; but I'm not sold; as paints a different picture. For a man who is supposedly a closet anti-Semite, Trump sure does have a lot of Jewish business connections, political advisors, and even close Jewish family such as Ivanka Trump and her children. Politically, a stauncher supporter of Zionism can hardly be found. Trump has openly endorsed Bibi Netanyahu as the leader of Israel and proclaimed he would recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, while one of his advisors recently voiced support for Israel annexing the West Bank. Trump himself has even lead the Israel Day Parade.

I don't think every reference to a global elite, to moneyed business interests, etc. is a closeted reference to the Jewish people. I understand and respect why some people think so, but I also think context matters. Especially given the very real currents of antisemitism amongst segments of Trump's supporters, I can understand why people would be worried. But I think that ultimately when Donald Trump attacks big business, or corporate elites, or what have you, he is attacking just those people, not the Jewish race. Personally, I believe that the system is rigged. I believe that the media is in on it, that Hillary Clinton is deeply involved with it, and that, yes, global progressive elites are the problem. I do not now, nor have I ever, believed in some Jewish cabal running a Zionist occupational government -- and not just because I've never been invited to join ;p

Equating certain phrases with veiled antisemitism is all well and good; but in my -- very in-depth -- experience, real antisemites don't bother veiling themselves. They're loud, they're proud, and down with the kike. To wit, from the platform of the American Nazi Party:

"We must have an America in which our cultural, social, business and political life is free of alien, Jewish influence; an America in which White people are the sole masters of our own destiny."

And from the platform of the National Socialist Movement:

"Accordingly, no Jew or homosexual may be a member of the nation."

I could go on, with examples from the Klan, from the League of the South, from Stormfront, from IronMarch, etc. etc. but I'm sure you see my point. Real antisemites don't bother hiding, because they're nothing but proud of what they are. It could be argued -- and is argued, by many mainstream Jewish organisations -- that a new, veiled antisemitism is creeping upon us in the form of Boycotts, Divestment, and Sanctions, in the form of anti-Zionism, and yes, in the form of Donald Trump. But I don't believe it. Antisemitism exists today, it's out there, and yes, it is growing. But it damn sure doesn't hide, and Donald J Trump with his Jewish grandchildren is not their standard-bearer, whether the mainstream media wants him to be or not.

Yikes.

While he is "right" in some areas (some people do lose as a result of trade, Clinton is corrupt), he is purposely misleading. Our country as a whole does not have a comparative advantage in producing like countries such as China. Yet, we have thrived this way by producing original thought and this is not going to change, nor do any of us want it to.

Yes, when people come to work in this country it makes labor (in some areas) cheaper. Yes, when people produce the same item for less it makes competition harder. Yes, someone here can make your product locally (and don't get me wrong, I try to buy local and I make and sell homemade)..for a higher cost, try justifying that to a single mom with 3 kids. We cannot take away cheap food and clothing with no alternative, that (to me) is cruel.

Okay now let's get back to the basics, we all hate corporations right? Isn't Trump a corporation?

I don't hate corporations, it's just a tax code after all. I do hate politicians that exploit something they are to favor and mislead others. Trump is a politician, don't be confused.

The antisemitism mostly came from his followers, not something that he has outright supported. Yet the (()) was well noted to be from Trump supporters, from conservatives and liberals alike.

Personally, and I'm not a Hillary fan (or even a liberal). Not openly addressing antisemitism and racism among followers and being openly sexist is a huge problem as far as I am concerned. Not to mention that he is is wrong wrong wrong on the economics front (some of which I've already addressed), it's kind of a no-brainer.

You know, we'll still believe you're a conservative even if you don't argue in support of everything Trump does. It's okay. You don't have to keep doing this to yourself.

Castus, I stand with Jack.  Honestly even if you completely repudiated trump as the candidate, I (and probably the vast majority of people here) would still believe you are a conservative. Even if you held your nose and voted for Hillary and admitted to it, your conservative credentials are not in danger.

It's more than OK.  It's a valid, principled stance.  Said the conservative who is 100% not voting for the orange baboon.
In all truth, I wonder why any conservative would consider voting for an obvious authoritarian gasbag.

I assure you, my grandmother isn't being held hostage in Trump Tower. The truth is:

(a. I don't think Trump is an antisemite
(b. I really like this speech

He's just really super careless about retweeting white supremecists and that previous time his campaign implied that Hillary was somehow in league with Jews was also definitely not antisemitic and the thing where he was cool with David Duke for an uncomfortably long time was just because he wasn't keeping up with the news and the pattern where his followers troll the shit out of Jewish political reporters is definitely not his fault... right?

Well it is so hard to fact check when you live the high-octane, pussy-grabbing, lifestyle that Donald Trump does.
