Feraferia
« on: August 27, 2016, 04:14:37 pm »
It's not a path one hears much about, but I think it's kind of interesting, and wondered if anyone around here had any experience with it. There's a bit written about it in Margot Adler's Drawing Down the Moon, as well as their official website, http://feraferia.org.

I'm not an expert, but from what I understand, it's a path that focuses on primal, wild magic and spirituality. Like most modern pagan traditions, parts of it resemble a modified form of Wicca, with the Goddess being the central deity, with the moon phases and the usual quarter and cross-quarter seasonal celebrations being the main holidays. It's also a "faery" tradition, which I guess goes along with the wilder nature of the tradition. From what I've read, they incorporate some ancient Greek concepts and deity names as well, such as Kore (maiden) and Kouros (male youth) being aspects of the deities honoured.

I've not had any experience personally, but Poke Runnion was a friend of the founders Fred Adams and Lady Svetlana. He's dedicated several Hermetic Hour episodes to Feriferia, and done several interviews with Jo, who i may be wrong but i believe is running things over there now. May be worth listening to if you dig podcasts. You'll have to dig for episodes as i don't have time to do so, but here's a link just in case
http://www.blogtalkradio.com/the-hermetic-hour

The impression that i got from that is that there's a focus on the transformative experience of creating art, although that's obviously not everything Feriferia has to offer, but I'll admit my exposure is more a sideline rather than seeking them out
