Is this eclectic paganism?
« on: August 04, 2016, 03:26:02 am »
*Note: when I say 'God', I'm not talking about the Christian God but just my interpretation of who and what God is. I don't mean any disrespect!*

So first I was a Christian, then I was an agnostic, then an atheist and then a deist/omnist/agnostic/pantheist/evolution-believer but I realized that I needed a shorter term :P I believe that all religions talk about the same Creator God but with different interpretations. I don't believe that God resembles humans or that God is any specific gender, that They're basically an extraterrestrial. I love nature and believe that part of God's presence is in nature. I also love all the Gods and Goddesses, I believe that there's a Creator and then "helpers", for lack of a better word. I love Jesus but I believe He was more of a prophet. Um...I do pray occasionally but it's almost always to the saints because I think that the Gods and Goddesses don't have much to do with the Earth nowadays.

I believe in souls and reincarnation and an afterlife. I think that my afterlife mostly resembles The Summerland. I believe that the Creator made this world to evolve, so it started out with like nothing but then became what we have now. I own various gemstones with particular qualities and I believe in things like horoscopes and fortune telling. I love all holy places, I'm going to youth group next Friday night and I'm so excited. I'm also going to a Buddhist center and that should be fun too, I really like Buddhism (and Wicca) but I don't follow it 100%

So am I technically an eclectic pagan? I really need a shorter term lol

Hi! I'm Buddhist. Tibetan Buddhist specifically. If you have any questions about Buddhism, feel free to drop me a line, though I'm not the best qualified to answer.

"Eclectic Pagan" sounds about right for what you've described. The thing about being eclectic is it's going to be different for everyone!
KARMA: You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

I would agree from what you described you would be an eclectic pagan. I also considered myself eclectic because I like gather information from different sources and types of religious ideologies. I think see what works for you and what doesn't is what makes being eclectic fun for me. Just follow your heart and you will know what to call yourself.

I understand where you're coming from! At one point I called myself a non-denominational spiritualist. Eventually I found pantheism and paganism, and it more or less seems to fit.

It sounds like you would be considered eclectic to me! Being eclectic isn't a static identifier, your practice can evolve with you.

What you describe sounds to me primarily either as Unitarian folk Christianity, Unitarian Universalism or New Age, but if you prefer to call it Eclectic Paganism that will do, too.

I considered the labels Ceremonial Magician, Spiritist and Druid, but since you do not mention any magical practice, no particular interest in communication with the departed and no fascination of the (fluid) concept of 'Druid', I removed them from a list of potential identifications.

You could be a soft Perennialist of the Aldous Huxley type, but you don't sound like a hardcore Perennialist like René Guenon.
