Thank you for that input. That is why I love this site, so much knowledge in the world but is hard to travel the world sometimes so having a way to get it from the house is nice.

Its a shame you think you are going to find that in a misinterpreted watered down book. Everything you need to know is in the Poetic Edda and no place else.

People like you are the reason so much information gets lost. Ignorance breeds fear. Fear breeds hate. Im the last one who has this knowledge and its been a long while since anyone on earth had the skill.
You can talk about it here as long as you don't really know it. Fantastic...

Good luck to you.

Seidr,

1. Hyacinth Belle is the SIG Leader of the Asatru and Heathenry SIG, and was speaking as such, to inform you about how TC and the A&H SIG are run. It is inappropriate to denigrate or consescend to her when she is doing her job, and constitutes a violation of our rules, specifically the rule against arguing or debating moderation calls.

2. TC is a discussion and debate forum. As such, it is a place where fact claims, especially unusual or improbable ones, will be challenged. This is the case whether you like it or not.

3. I have followed several of the links you've provided. None of them serve as any sort of support for any of the claims you've made (except, perhaps, the claim that 'most people are unerved [sic] by My clips'), since they all go to your sites - your YouTube video and channel, your breathplay forum, your seidr website.  Because they are only peripherally relevant to the content of the post in which they appear or the post being replied to, and because of your statement that you are not interested in debate (made in direct response to being informed that discussion and debate are what we do here) I consider them to be spam by the definition in our Advertising Guidelines, 'Unsolicited advertising/announcement (commercial or non-commercial, pagan or non-pagan) messages not approved in advance in accordance with the procedures in these Advertising Guidelines is generally considered "spam",' and am, accordingly, banning you from TC.

Hello!

I have been reading about Norse magic called Seidr. I am still a bit confused as to what it is. Does anyone have any information or experience with it?

I am leery of wading into a thread where someone got banned.  But if you want information ...

"Nine Worlds of Seid Magic" by Jenny Blain is written by someone who is both an academic and a practitioner of modern Seid.

"Shamanism in Norse Myth and Magic" by Clive Tolley compares what is known about Shamanism to what is known about Seid.  (Clive proves rather convincingly Seid and Shamanism have little to do with one another).

"Witchcraft and Magic in the Nordic Middle Ages"  by Stephen Mitchel has a few things to say about Seid.

Raudvere. "Trolldómr in Early Medieval Scandinavia." Ed. Bengt & Clark, Stuart Ankarloo. Vol. Witchcraft and Magic in Europe.   Another academic source that references Seid.

I hope that helps ....

Nope, nope.  Would never spam.  I keep any mysticized BDSM porn to myself.  ;)

Ooh, I finally finished reading Elves in Anglo-Saxon England that Hall cross-referenced with medieval Germany and Scandinavia. I'd be interested in Clive's argument because Hall seemed all etymological/cultural transfer of Saami shamanism to seidr. The gist of the thing to Hall seemed to be: 1. get high (as in, hike up a hill or mountain before doing the thing) 2. have a wand (or maybe a rune staff, but I don't know why because this next thing went—) 3. leave body, make trouble. Though there's some previous mention of having someone otherworldly come into the body and prophesy stuff too though not explicitly categorized as seidr, and I'm just fortunate to have read elsewhere on these forums about the heathen concept of spirit bodies because Hall seemed to just be sort of "...leave body. (Pause.) Now about those gender constructs implied by the dative and genitive cognates following diachronic philological—" though to be fair the latter was what it was more about. So your book list looks great, since it's got books just about the actual thing! :D
