Headcoverings in modern Roman pagan beliefs
« on: May 21, 2016, 02:36:01 am »
Out of those few here how many actually cover their heads as was historically done.  Is it really even needed.   Was you get around it but still keep your head covered (I wear a hoodie or I have a blanket)

I did all my rituals capite velatio, and even own a toga somewhere that I purchased for the occasions. If I recall correctly the practice was adopted to shield the petitioner from evil influences and spirits, so I see no reason why it wouldn't be relevant in a modern framework.

“Believing in the Lord means you are connected to me no matter when you are poor, sick, or struggling in a relationship. I am always with you. I want you to believe that. The future is uncertain, and much suffering awaits. However, the mission of the believer is to live life doing their best, no matter what the circumstances.” — Ryuho Okawa

I don't used a fold of a toga to do so, but when I honour Roman gods I cover my head with a special cloth I use for rituals.

I would say so, yes; at least for a rite to be considered Roman in manner or style. Capite velatio was what distinguished Roman rites from Greeks, Celts, and others. And as Castus said, it is meant to shield the participant from ominous or malicious spirits or things, as well as distractions; that's still a relevant part of ritual.

I have covered my head. I'm not really in the Roman belief system but it does give a different feel. Try it. Sometimes go for it then other times without.

May the wind always be at your back.
