Symbolism for Prosperity/Luck Spell
« on: September 13, 2011, 04:36:26 pm »
So I'm working on a jar spell for financial prosperity and good luck. The plan is to take a glass jar and paint the outside with symbols, and to actually work the spell I'll probably anoint the jar with oil, as well as a candle.

Trouble is, aside from coins, paper money and dollar signs, I cannot for the life of me think of any other symbols for financial prosperity, and I'm drawing a total blank for good luck.

Anyone have any ideas? My painting skills aren't that great, so they'd need to be fairly simplistic images (or something that lends itself to stylization.) Any help is much appreciated!

Can't think of anything else for money, but there's some easy ones for luck, like a horseshoe or 4 leaf clover or maybe a rabbits foot?

There's a rune for (depending on the specific translation) great harvest, or prosperity. The "Jera" rune, which is pretty simple.

Check out http://symbols.com/ - one of my favorite sources for symbol ideas. They've got a word index (and a symbol index, so you can figure out what a symbol might be if you don't know it.) The index is a little funky - try alternate terms, as sometimes things are not cross-indexed ideally. But there's some awesome stuff in there.

(For prosperity stuff, I also go heavy on earth symbology, especially stuff around growing cycles, fertility, etc.)

Are you planning to put anything in the jar?  You mentioned a candle, but it wasn't clear to me if it was meant to go inside, on top of, in front of, etc.

If you aren't putting the candle in the jar, I might suggest things like salt, rice, potting soil, beans, and pennies.  That's usually what I do if I want sustained prosperity.

In fact, I almost always have such a jar around.  I usually bury them or put them in the attic or walls of the place I live and make a new one when I move.

I was planning on just putting the candle inside, but I could easily put it in some soil- that would help keep the glass from getting too hot, too. Thanks!

Hanging this here because I appreciate the suggestions for things to go inside the jar, but in general: thank you for starting this thread, Juni, because I've been looking for a spell idea to work my own prosperity and money spell! :D:

Back when I wrote a piece for Immanion's wealth magic anthology, I wrote an essay about cattle.  Cows/Taurus/Fehu I think the rune is.... cattle.

I wonder if I can find it.

I find including items that are the same color as the color of the currency you are trying to get. Also, try adding in some cornstalk or wheat for prosperity?

Whatever it is you want prosperity FOR.  If it's the ability to travel, a toy boat, if it's craft supplies, some yarn scraps, that sort of thing.

Thanks! I will add Fehu to the design. Much easier than cows!
