If the Republicans wind up w/a "brokered" convention and do not choose Trump as their candidate, it might well mean the end of the party: there will be a mass exodus of the disenchanted, who will either join the Democrats or seek to join a new party. Either way, the Republicans will have "elected" Hillary Clinton the first female President of the United States long before November - and they will do the same if they allow Trump to be their candidate in name only but do not fully support him.

I've been saying this for quite awhile.  I'm not a Trump supporter, but if the people nominate him and GOP uses their loophole to bypass him, the people won't be happy.  I won't be happy.  If the politicians can bypass the people's vote in order to maintain their status quo, like you, I think we'll see an end to the party.

The Democratic side isn't any better.  They're using the superdelegates to maintain their party's status quo.

People are so incredibly disenfranchised with both parties and that's why I believe this election is a historical moment, whoever wins.  There will be change--a major change in the election process from both sides of the aisle.

Either way, I'm beginning to think that Hillary Clinton is somewhat more likely than Trump to be the next president.

Former President Clinton - who will still have to be called "Mr President" out of respect - will serve as the nation's first First Gentleman!

Hillary will be the next president.

I can't stand her and this goes back to when her husband was in office.  The GOP has gone bat crap crazy, so there's no viable option from that side.  Cruz is a whack-job, scarier even than Trump, and Kasich is a conniving slime ball who is now showing his true colors.

Bernie won't get the nomination because people are so scared of Trump that they believe Hillary is the only one who has a chance to beat him.  So Bernie supporters are giving away their votes to Hillary for this very reason.

I dread listening to her for the next four years because her voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me, but I take comfort in that she'll maintain President Obama's status quo until we get more viable options in 2020.

It's a helluva year.

btw, I'm a registered Republican.  I'm a Libertarian, but unless I register with one of the two parties, I can't vote in the primaries.  The system truly does need to be revamped and I have a lot of ideas, but God is going to have to give me some really powerful powers to make it so.

This is why I homeschooled my son from K-12.

When I was in school no one knew what Asperger's was. I got my diagnosis late in life. At university my symptoms were useful talents, not a burden. I am not familiar with the label K-12. Each country has its own system of education. Sometimes I am not sure how to translate the Swedish one into English. I'm not sure if Sixth Form and Lycée means what I think they do, and the selections of curriculi must be different between different countries, anyhow.

I researched what Asperger's was from the day when he was 1 1/2 years and the pediatrician called him one of her flappers.  (...) I've never tried to suppress his Aspie tendencies--again, I love how Aspies think!--but I've tried to help him work within a neurotypical ( :) ) society.

Yes, training to interact with the rest of society is important. I guess I have been lucky to have some good mentors by coincidence. Irony is still a problem. I am fond of using it myself, but I am not always sure when and if someone else is using it.

English is not my first language. Does the word 'flapper', in this case, refer to an uneasy way of moving? I only know the word when it is used about a British youth subculture from the 1920s, and that does not apply here.

Even the way of moving, and feeling at home in ones body, are possible to train. As I mentioned to DIASPORA earlier, lifting weights is a very good means, in order to become aware of physical embodied existence. For Aspies I recommend using machines for several months (or a year, or even more) until switching to free weights. The neurotypicals seem to understand free weights in a more unconscious and natural way, without the need to process the lifting experience in a rational-analytic way.

I hated history because of the teachers I had, but as we learned about it together, it's become a passion of mine as well.

Teachers have impact on how we think about particular subjects. My mother share your experience of a bad history teacher, and can't really understand how I can be interested in history, philosophy and religion. I had very good history teachers (and philosophy teachers) when I grew up.

And you see your memories as a landscape?  Have you heard of Daniel Tammet?

No I haven't. I will google him.

Maintaining the status quo is what government is all about. Any government's chief problem is, of course, maintaining its borders. After that, comes maintaining a social order that allows for an extremely unfair distribution of goods and services (resources). Those who benefit from the way things are will do whatever - and I mean whatever - to keep what they have. There is no act - no matter how vile - that history cannot furnish examples of it having been committed to protect the interests of the powerful: millions have died in wars, millions have starved to death, billions have lived in destitution, not to mention the individual acts of corruption, murder, betrayal, imprisonment, torture, degradation, and humiliation.

Not even my Dr had heard of Asperger's when I was a kid.
I was just a weird little kid w/a learning disability who was at first reckoned to be stupid but who then was thought to be exceptionally intelligent - after I was taught to read and write by a dyslexia specialist. But then my other problems blossomed, and I could not function in other ways - Major Depression and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, common to Aspies ... Eventually, I was allowed to live in my own little World, which was HELL, until my late 40s, when I took it upon myself to seek therapy. Then I got a diagnosis: 2 psychiatrists, 2 psychologists, 4 licensed clinical social workers, and a host of case workers all agreed - I was autistic, suffering from Major Depression, and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. None of these conditions is curable. 2 of them can be medicated. But the damage is done - more than 40 years of living in a shell, and there just isn't time for me to catch up and do my work. The work is more important. I see things in the foundations of mathematics - gaps - that I am sure no one else has seen - and I am going to work on making my points ... Of course, the commercial where that bastard physicist equates zero and nothing just to sell a tax app is not helping - he should die! I never did care for him, now I despise him! Teaching the ignorant to be ignorant is - unforgivable!

It sounds like your Asperger diagnosis include worse symptoms than mine.

Perhaps b/c I am an American and my parents were working class and grew up in a generation that simply did not believe in abnormality. Normality was to be imposed and all deviation was deemed defiance and was to be punished. This was a very left-over English way of looking at things. The English may well have moved on, but, as a former colony, America had not. It's a phenomenon that linguists had observed - I think that they call it "dialectal shift", wherein a transplanted language is closer to the original than what is to be found back at home. The accent that Americans in the original 13 colonies had was actually closer to the accent that the English had had in England before a century had passed. A good example of dialectal shift is to be found on Smith Island in Maryland. Until the late 20th Century, Smith Island was very isolated. Go there, and you will actually here an Elizabethan English accent among the natives, whether they are white (most of them) or black (a few of them).

My usual way of writing in a table failed me w/this post: "hear an Elizabethan English accent ..."
Yes - I have to use a table to write. More than one table, really. Subject-Verb-Object is the first table. Then I use a Subject-Predicate table. Then I have my spiffing-up table, wherein I might add adjectives and adverbs. Then there is my word-order table. You will notice that I never split infinitives. Finally, there are my drafting tables. Those are where I put my sentences through their paces. I can get lost in the weeding, though, and end up posting w/extra words or misplaced words or misused words, and I have to do a lot of post editing. I just can't see mistakes until they are posted.
