NOOK going belly-up

B&N customers need to get used to some big changes coming up next week – 15 March to the precise. That’s when the firm will no longer offer third party applications from the Nook Store. That’s a decision fuelled by the success of Google’s Play Store which runs on B&N devices and has been inevitably far more successful.

The Nook store became mostly useless once Nook tablets gained access to the Android standard Google Play store -- that was several years ago.

Oh yeah. And in my experience, it's next to impossible to buy from them -- every single book I tried to purchase gave me a warning that I couldn't because I was in the wrong country (a warning no Canadian gets tired of /sarcasm). So I quickly gave up and basically forgot that NOOK existed, at least from a consumer standpoint.

I have a first gen Nook ebook reader and I like it as a ereader.  However, I have seldom bought anything from the Nook bookstore, I mainly sideload stuff I've bought via the PC, borrowed from the library or whatever. The Nook bookstore was just too slow on this early nook. Sad thing is had I know that, I would not have paid more for the free airtime.
