Why would you go to a catholic high school if you are not catholic?

The other schools in my area are neither academically sufficient nor safe, so I made a choice of education and safety over secular classes. (With pressure from my parents, yes). Part of me regrets it, and part of me doesn't. I regret subjecting myself to the toxic environment and the stress, but they've been extraordinarily accommodating and supportive during a recent health crisis, moreso than I think any other school would have been, so make of that what you will, I guess.

Plenty of people go to religious schools while not being part of the religion. It's also probably worth mentioning I was baptized Catholic and was still Catholic when I enrolled.

People don'y usually choose where they go to school, their parents do it for them

Yeah but usually catholic school is not cheap. If you aren't interested in catholic religion you should try talking to your parents because they are just waisting money. Unless they are forcing religion on you.

Kinda too late for that? I'm graduating this semester.

Also--again--it *is* actually a good education, and a cheaper option than a lot of schools in my area, so they're not wasting money.

Depends on where you are. In the UK it's actually free.

Canada too (or at least Ontario; education is run by provinces here). The Catholic school boards are AFAIK publically funded, as are French-language schools. (I went to 'regular' schools for both primary and secondary.)

Same here. Catholic schools ARE our public schools so people have little choice. There's huge pressure to baptise here in order to get a school place for children as there is little else available (Non-Catholic schools here are heavily oversubscribed). Private schools here are not like private Catholic schools elsewhere. I was baptised for that reason.

Most people have no choice but to send their kids to a Catholic school, even if they are Muslim, etc. Most schools will accommodate other faiths as best they can if the parents are firm about it.

Likewise in Alberta, and AIUI all across Canada. (There are historic reasons for this, which I doubt I could explain well without looking them up, and which don't seem particularly pertinent to this thread so I'm not bothering.)

A Reminder:
Hi, Doc,

Just a quick note:  Please remember to quote (which you did), and to trim the quoted content to only the parts you're replying to. (It's also acceptable to trim out all the text, as I did here, as long as you make sure you leave the quote code intact) It makes the discussion  easier to follow, and it's required by  our  rules. This is especially important when you're responding to quite a long post with a one-line reply, as in this case; a really long quote overshadows a brief reply and makes it hard to see.

This isn't a formal warning, just a reminder.  No  reply is necessary, but if you have questions or need clarification,  please feel free to contact a member of staff privately.

Thanks!

Huh, weird; the only Christian school I was aware of in Vancouver was private and fairly expensive, so I figured they weren't funded by the government.

Oops, I think I might have been mistaken - at one point (over 30 years ago) I did become aware that things seemed to work differently in BC, or at any rate on the Lower Mainland, than I was accustomed to in AB and MB (and knew about in - some, anyway - other provinces), but I never did know any details to speak of, and it slipped my mind when I was posting earlier.
