Best books on Druidry
« on: November 27, 2015, 04:55:07 pm »
I've started the bardic course from OBOD and I'd like to get your recommendations on the best Druidry books to get.  I live in a big city so books about urban Druidry are good too.

I have the book Druidry by Philip Shallcrass and it's pretty basic.

Thanks!!!

Welcome to OBOD! I'm working on my Ovate level and loving it. :)

There are lots of good books out there. Here are a few I usually recommend to people just starting out:

These are both historical research by Ronald Hutton. They are very good, very detailed. "Blood and Mistletoe" is denser than "The Druids". They are very similar, but "The Druids" is more for the general public.

This one, by Penny Billington, is very nice and offers a nice way of looking at the Druid path. Penny is a member of OBOD.

OBOD has a link to their Amazon Store on the website. They list tons of books so you can hunt through them and see what else you might find interesting.

AND! This link will take you to OBOD's shop where they have a selection of books you can buy.

Hope this helps you find something that interests you. Let me know if you have any questions. :)

Over on Goodreads I made a list about my favourite druidry books. Other people have since added to it. I know and like most of the books here - they would still be my key recommendations on the subject. https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/36843.Good_Druidry_Books

I wonder something about Emma Restall Orr.  She had back then two free courses / documents available online: Principles of Druidry on http://www.whatisdruidry.org/ and A Perennial Course in Living Druidry on https://druidnetwork.org/what-is-druidry/learning-resources/perennial/.  I copied both in my digital Book of Shadows back then.  So I wonder if her books Living Druiry and Principles of Druidry share the same contents as the same online courses.
