What's some suggestions you guys have?

 
It would possibly be worth looking into different sorts of meditation.

It's my experience that a lot of people, when they hear "meditate", think "empty-mind sitting-still meditation", which is a) just one of many, many different practices that falls into the category 'meditation', and b) really bloody hard to do unless one has a large set of underlying skills.

So what sort of meditation are you trying to do?

Some that are easier for beginners are crafting or walking meditations - trying to fall into the fugue state of knitting or the walking pace or whatever - or listening meditations, in which one sits and pays attention to all the random thoughts that come up, acknowledging them but not pursuing them.
