The Hazards of Religious Arbitration
« on: November 04, 2015, 10:45:03 am »
The New York Times published a big article yesterday about businesses that require employees to sign contracts to agree to resolve disputes through a religious tribunal of sorts. The majority are Christian. The article focuses on the troubles of three persons who have been given grief for trying to seek justice through this system: a schoolteacher who was fired and completely ostracized from her community; a parent investigating her son's suspicious death; and an ex-scientologist trying to regain money he was defrauded of.http://www.nytimes.com/2015/11/03/business/dealbook/in-religious-arbitration-scripture-is-the-rule-of-law.html

This is scary. The saddest line was from the mother who didn't ask many questions because "when you think Christian, you think good." That's how predatory companies/agencies get to people. :(

This is an excellent reminder of why it's so important to actually READ the fine print!

Before you sign! And if you aren't sure what something means, ask - if you still aren't sure, ask someone else. :(
