Herb garden
« on: August 09, 2015, 10:58:46 pm »
Does anyone else have an herb garden? And what kinds of herbs do you grow?

I grow sage, rosemary, dill, parsley, thyme, basil and mint. My wife likes to use some of them in cooking, which works out amazing. She takes only enough right when she's cooking, for freshness and because she read somewhere that herbs lose as much as half of their nutritional value in about 30 minutes after picking them.

I use them for my purposes, too. Just today,I brewed a mint tea, and it turned out great!

I have mint, sage, chives, and oregano. I used to grow a few others, but they died and I haven't replanted them. Maybe next spring.

This winter has been very mild so far,  so my mint is still growing.I have some calendula flowers and the odd rose still blooms. The marjoram and yarrow are at standstill no new growth. Interspersed within the grass I have mugwort, marjoram and yarrow which self-seeded.
I used to have an angelica of which I harvested the roots after it died in its third year.
The lavendel I have an english and a spanish lavender. The rosemary needs replacement next season not much left of it.

I have rosemary, thyme, parsley, and the remnants of a basil plant. :) I plan on branching out in the spring and taking better care of them. Right now I mainly focus on keeping them watered and that is it. I used to be more attentive to my plants then moved in with someone who was obsessed with gardening and took over. Now that I am in my own place, I need to get back in the habit.
