How to combine respectfully
« on: August 02, 2015, 01:13:33 pm »
My own practice mainly consist of the religion of the Roman Empire in its late, Neo-Platonic state, with some traces of other things, and combined with, but not practiced at the same time slot as, Meso-Druidry. Since I am fond of the city of Alexandria, I am considering to incorporate Egyptian religion, as it was practiced in the Imperial Age, but my knowledge about it is admittedly very limited, and I hope that you who specialise in Kemeticism will be able to help me.

Do you think it is a good idea to clense in natron-water before an Egyptian sacrifice of a Maat-depiction, when it occurs just minutes after a Roman, Greek or Romano-Celtic libation, even if a lustration more Romano has occurred before the initial libation? I try to keep each ritual separate.

I have a memory of reading that the function of Nisut was transferred from the Egyptian monarch to the god Tutu (Greek: Tithoes) following the death of Cleopatra, which resolve many modern problems. Is it a good idea to invoke Tithoes in the beginning of the Egyptian segment of my chain of rituals? Would it be proper to twin this with an invokation of Wepwawet (Greek: Ophois)?

Are there any authentic texts preserved from Ptolemaean or Imperial time that serve this purpose? Are there any new, written in a literary style close to the original one?

How much do we know about the household cultus among ordinary Graeco-Egyptians and rural Egyptians of the Imperial (and Ptolemaean) time? Are there any household rituals preserved from devotees to Isis and Renenutet resident outside Egypt?

Neos Alexandria may be able to help you with this more.  They are at http://neosalexandria.org

I tend towards the feeling that more purification is never a bad thing, myself, but since I know nothing about the relevant other cleansing rituals I could not say whether or not I would consider them sufficient.

I know literally nothing about any power named Tutu.  The name has never come up in any of my research and ritual.  Googling now...  Oh, hey, another ordinary people god, cool.  I don't see anything in a quick search that suggests that he's appropriate for that role, but I don't see anything at all relevant to the question.  More investigation required.

Wepwawet is an appropriate Power to invoke for beginnings and openings; that much I can speak to.

Neos Alexandria might know.  Outside of my period.

Ordinary people rituals are very hard to come by in general; there may be some evidence somewhere, but it's a pain in the butt, at least for the periods I'm familiar with.
