The bishops of the Episcopal Church have authorized their clergy to perform same-sex weddings, but don’t expect sweeping changes across the entire denomination anytime soon. Episcopalians voted Wednesday to allow religious weddings for gay couples, but not every priest will necessarily officiate at a same-sex wedding.

It looks like it is still a controversial issue, as bishops still have the right to forbid priests in their diocese from solemnizing same-sex weddings, but it's a good start, and at least the option is available for more progressive dioceses to adopt.

The Episcopal Church seems to be ahead of the game on a lot of issues in comparison to the rest of the Anglican Communion. I've heard they are already a very LGBT-friendly Church, and they have a lady primate. They've had women bishops since the late 1980s, while in comparison, the mother church, the Church of England, only consecrated its first woman bishop earlier this year.

The Anglican Church of Canada was seriously considering changing the marriage canon recently to be inclusive of non-hetersexual couples, but as far as I know it wasn't expected to happen because it was thought to be too divisive when it came to other Churches within the Anglican Communion. The Anglican Churches in Africa, in particular, were threatening to separate from the Communion if the ACC went through with changing their marriage canon. I don't think the Episcopal Church really cares that much about what the rest of the Anglican Communion thinks, which I like about them.
