    • Songs of the Metamythos
  • Religion: tree-hugging pagan
  • Preferred Pronouns: he/him/his
The first song sets the wheel in motion / The second is a song of love / The third song tells of Her devotion / The fourth cries joy from the sky above
The fifth song binds our fate to silence / and bids us live each moment well / The sixth unleashes rage and violence / The seventh song has truth to tell
The last song echoes through the ages / to ask its question all night long / And close the circle on these pages / These, the metamythos songs

Pat is often good for a laugh. However, I think the question is funnier than his answer. "Veganism" as "New Age Spirituality"?!

I don't find these things funny, this is part of a parcel of fucked up things that are taught in the kind of church I grew up in. (there are discussions about appropriation when it comes to yoga but thats a whole different thing)

When I was a practicing Catholic, I was advised not to participate in Yoga of any kind!

When I was the department admin for a graduate program at a local college, one of our grad students was going to take an intercultural-oriented psychology class, and she was very.....um, 'concerned' I think would be a polite phrase.... because she'd heard that the instructor had his classes learn tai chi. I had the hardest time explaining to her that: A) the tai chi wasn't compulsory, B) it was a type of exercise similar to yoga and martial arts like judo, and C) it wasn't an attempt at religious indoctrination. (I had a *really* hard time not rolling my eyes at the silliness of her "religious objection".)

Honestly, ignorance is rampant these days.

There's a lot of ridiculousness wrapped up in that clip. But the thing that stands out most to me is:  How is it praying if you don't even understand the language or the meaning of the words you're saying? Doesn't praying require some kind of intent to, you know, pray?
