What would your kit contain?

... what would you put in it?

I don't do much magic, so my portable kit is pretty much my only kit. The contents so far:

- a copper burner
- charcoal disks for it
- a candle
- salt
- some edible paper
- a regular pencil
- a red china-marking pencil
- a small folding knife (for practical, not ritual, use)
- soap
- a white cloth
- a small notebook with correspondences, symbols etc

I can think of a few things I'd like to add, like matches :ashamed:, string, and colored origami paper.

What would your kit contain?

- Chalk
- Notebook
- Pen/pencil
- Tarot cards
- Lighter/matches
- Incense
- Tealight candle

I think that would cover anything I'd need in an emergency, anyway.

Right now, mine contains...

- a set of alabaster bowl and tealight-candle holders
- tealights
- a sage smudge stick
- some herbal oils for anointing or quick herbal work
- a porcupine quill
- a few small stones (amethyst, tiger's eye, a few others)
- the Wild Unknown tarot
- small (but nice) folded cloth to place other stuff on
- book of shadows

Ooohh, fun! Anyway, I have 2. One is my "bag of random things" which contains small trinkets and other shiny stuff I've found, mostly on Walks. The contents of this change regularly, it's stuff that will show me what it's for when the time is right.

The 2nd is an old hard shelled camera case that lives in my trunk. It's got a few cheap candles, an old make up compact that I repurposed as a scrying mirror, some cloth in a few colors, paper and crayons, and a couple of sigils for angels I work with regularly. Normally there's stuff for incense in there too, but i got into that the other day, and haven't repacked it yet. (remembers, and runs off to do that)

 
You know, 'repacking' made me think - what do most people use their portable magic kits for? Duh, being away from home but I mean the whys behind that. I think the last time I actually did pack a to-go bag was when someone thought their house was haunted.

In my case, because I live in an apartment with no balcony, so if I'm going to be burning things, I need to go elsewhere.

Also, because I like making kits. For, like, everything.

Here's a question for those who have tarot decks and the like: do you keep your "main" set with your kit, or do you have two or more sets?

Hmm...
- Runes
- Flint or steel firestarter
- Two small, smooth stones suitable for grinding herbs (or to serve as divination yes/no tools!)
- A marker that can be applied and removed from said stones
- Small candles, tinder, something that can keep a flame
- Notebook/sketcbook
- Chalk or other natural mineral suitable for drawing, maybe even some mineral or vegetable pigment for some cases.
- Fabric to wrap things in or throw the runes on.
- A few basic herbs
- Aaaand some sort of fake tiny animal skull that looks real, so that anyone who opens it on "accident" will likely be too grossed out by the 'disgusting bones' to rummage through my things

Pretty much everything everyone has mentioned, ideally. LOL this little kit is getting huge!

I'd use a burner other than copper, as it heats up too much to be easily handled. My local herb store sells adorable mini cast iron cauldrons about the size of a demitasse cup.

I'd also take my staff and athame.

The other question would be where are you taking the kit and what is its purpose?

For instance traveling by car? Yay, lots of room for lots of stuff!

Traveling by plane? The athame and staff would have to stay home both for reasons of "Homeland Insecurity," baggage weight, and not wanting to lose them if the airlines lost my stuff.

Walking deep into the woods? The lighter the better! And a bottle of drinking water is a necessary addition in most cases. Plus a bag for collecting trash and anything not biodegradable. (Btw this article regarding that sort of thing was inspired by an old thread on this forum http://lionrhod.net/magick_witchcraft/earth_safe_magick.html)

Also, I like to have a kit for emergency healing magick or emergency house cleanings, that I can grab if someone needs help. Smudge, salt, a white candle, a black candle, and a bit of garlic and asofetida. (For REAL emergencies only on the last one!)

But ultimately, the only tool I need for any magick is my will.
