The Pi Day of the Century Is Here!
« on: March 14, 2015, 05:44:04 am »
Set your watches!

"Pi describes the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter, and it represents an infinite string of numbers. Computers have calculated pi out to 10 trillion digits, but the first 10 go like this: 3.141592653

"What makes 3/14/15 so special for pi fans is that it is the only day this century that will have the first five digits of pi -- 3.1415. Since the next digits are 92653, most people have chosen 9:26 p.m. to mark the ultimate pi moment. (Sticklers can wait for the clock to read 53 seconds.)"

The first song sets the wheel in motion / The second is a song of love / The third song tells of Her devotion / The fourth cries joy from the sky above
The fifth song binds our fate to silence / and bids us live each moment well / The sixth unleashes rage and violence / The seventh song has truth to tell
The last song echoes through the ages / to ask its question all night long / And close the circle on these pages / These, the metamythos songs

the ultimate pi moment.

And as someone who's into sacred geometry, I'm loving it.

Here are some esoteric reasons why pi matters so much:

This means e day is less than four years away: e=2.718218284..... or 2/7/18. Unfortunately, Golden ratio day comes first: φ=1.61803398.... or 1/6/18.

Though if you want e day to come around every year, you could use European date notation (day/month) so that it falls on January 27

Now you've gone and done it--now all I can think about is creating a Calendar of Geekdom, a sort of geek wheel of the year, featuring the most esoteric holidays:

January 27--e Day
March 14--Pi Day
March 25--Middle-Earth Liberation Day
  • The day the One Ring was destroyed
May 4--Star Wars Day
  • "May the Fourth be with you"
September 13--Moon Remembrance Day
  • According to the defunct TV series Space: 1999, that's the day in 1999 when the moon blasted out of Earth orbit
What am I overlooking?

I like this idea. And with good art, it'd probably even sell.

Skynet activation date?  though there's apparently a few, so I'm not sure which one is the one to go with!

As an East African, Pi represents a source of tremendous self efficacy, for me. Ever since it was conceptualised, in the old African Kingdom, in about 4000BC. The ancestors knew very early on that mathematics is the study of the applications of the number 1 in describing logical truths.
