A Reminder:
Hi, Altair,

Nooo, you didn't. Still no trackback quote code, which is what we most want.

Oops. Sorry. You'd think I've been around long enough not to make such a bone-headed mistake. Mea culpa.
The first song sets the wheel in motion / The second is a song of love / The third song tells of Her devotion / The fourth cries joy from the sky above
The fifth song binds our fate to silence / and bids us live each moment well / The sixth unleashes rage and violence / The seventh song has truth to tell
The last song echoes through the ages / to ask its question all night long / And close the circle on these pages / These, the metamythos songs

- the scale hasn't budged much but I have definitely slimmed a bit. My clothes are loose enough that I've had to replace some and people keep commenting on how I must have lost weight. I've been doing a pretty intense exercise programme so I'm thinking that I may have lost fat and gained muscle.

That's what matters. Plus muscle burns calories even when idle, so by having more muscle, you're putting yourself in a better place to lose more fat or to be able to eat without gaining fat weight.

So, overall I'm not where I had hoped to be. I am, however, making progress and I'm pleased with that. I'm definitely stronger. I can do more push-ups than I could 3 months ago. I can carry my toddler further. I can dangle from the pull-up bar for longer. My stamina has increased. My skin is clear. My eyes are bright. I look healthy. There's more to life than what the scale says.

Bingo! Same for me and, from the sound of it, for Aster; we may not have hit the mark, but we're a lot closer and better for it.

Anyway, I just figured I'd encourage folks to check in, so we can cheer for those who reached their goals, and commiserate with each other for those of us who didn't. And in both cases, maybe learn a thing or two from our experiences.

I was doing relatively well until the first week in June, and then hayfever hit me hard enough to need more than OTC relief. Asthma attacks don't help an exercise regime. I gave up just over 24 hours of practice. Without this problem, I'd probably have made my goal.

Ah well. I should be okay by mid-July (if all goes like in years past) and pick up again then.

Any triumphs, tragedies, or lessons learned you care to share?

I made my goal of a one-mile, unaided hike, but not by the Solstice deadline.  That won't stop me from doing a victory dance, however.

Lessons, easy and hard fought:
  • Setbacks are not an excuse to stop working on your goals. - Failure to recognize this one is what caused me to be delayed in accomplishing my goal.  I'd planned to do the hike on Solstice, but talked myself out of it when some other things went pear-shaped.
  • People will be quick to tell you what you cannot do; listening to them is the quickest path to failure. - Well-meaning family and friends have been full of advice about what I should not be doing. Their concern was well-intended, but their fears translated into self-doubt about what I could actually do.
  • Find someone supportive who will hold you accountable. - One of my friends has called me every Sunday since I told him about this goal to ask if I'd done it and to shoot down whatever excuses I had.  Without that accountability, I would not have made it.
Since I was late with this one, I'm still contemplating what I want to achieve over the rest of the summer- leaning toward another hiking goal.  Anyone else setting up summer goals?

Conga rats!  (Where are my dancing rodents???)

I'd be interested in setting some summer goals...and in being accountable for reaching them.

I was going to give the mutual cheerleading a rest for a little while, so as not to become white noise in the background...but what do the rest of you think? Should we plunge into another cycle?

Chatelaine, as you can see, many of us hit snags, so you're not alone. Doesn't matter; be proud of what you accomplished, get back at it as soon as you can. In fact, maybe the allergies have already passed by now?

An excellent report, and another vote for a round of summer goals...hmmmm...
