If I had a better idea of the end-result you envision, I could be of more use in working out exactly how to accomplish that with InspIRCd.

As what I think you're mostly nervous about....yes, it can be locked down pretty tightly when you're the one who owns the server.

They both appear to be up. At least there are 9 or 10 people on the original. Perhaps it is your connection?

Yep, seems to have been me, despite looking very much like the crashes we've been getting, rather than like the thing that happens with my connection (which is otherwise very stable, so I'm used to what that one thing looks like).

A report on the test: there've been people in it all day, and thus far the only thing we found was that the doublequotes are curly and look weird.

That's probably because newer versions support unicode where 2.04 did not.
