I was just wondering what "socket error" meant. Because that kind of error is what disconnected me from chat and now I can't get back in.

Any advice?

Glad to know I'm not the only one! Same thing happened to me.

I can't get into chat at all, but its not giving me an error message, it's just closeing the connection as soon as it opens. What's going on?

It looks like the MUX server itself died (not the security server that usually causes issues with the Flash Client -- it is running fine). And it throws errors when I try to restart it. It looks like it died right around the time I did some security updates to the server (the normal kind that do not require a server reboot) so that may be related, but I can't see how as the library mentioned when MUX server dies when I try to restart it,
is not any of the ones updated by the server update. ???

What I'm saying is I have no idea what's wrong. Since I'm a morning person, I'll look into in in the morning (real life permitting) and see if I can figure out what has happened.

Thanks for doing this! I know it must be a pain.

It's a pain because I have no idea why it happened. The MUX server has hummed along for years without any problems like this that I can recall. :(

It was back! For a minute. and then it fell over again, same error.  Which I'm sure you're aware of, if you've been tinkering to get it up.  Just wanted to say I appreciate the work.

Chat is back up and seems to be stable -- at least for now.  Unfortunately, the Flash Chat client is now dead due to security server problems -- and I have to go do real world stuff. So unless you have a MU* client program running on your computer, you can't get into chat.

My apologies.

Suggestions for clients include:

Atlantis for Macintosh.
SimpleMU* for Windows.
tinyfugue for unix.

I use MUSHclient 'cause used to it. It's probably not the best or simplest.

Some recs: I use KildClient on my desktop computer, which runs (old) Ubuntu Linux (it also has a Wndows version), and Atlantis on my MacBook.

There are many MU* clients; others may have other recs, for those who don't yet have clients on their computers but would like to.

(Heh, I see I wasn't the first one to think of doing this.)

I use Atlantis on my Mac, Potato on the Windows machine, and MudRammer on iOS. (This last tends to boot me off if I try to multitask, alas.)
