How would that be different from regular decluttering?

Well, most of the minimalism books/websites I've read would probably pop a gasket about the amount of "clutter" on my altars, for one. XD

Well, perhaps the OP was asking if there were any pagan minimalist blogs like there are Christian ones?

That would be a great idea. I'd love to see that too, if one existed. Or maybe I should blog about it. =P

I guess this shows how out of the loop I am but what exactly do you mean? What needs to have the clutter shorn?

Actually, OP, have you seen the approximately forty-seven million people talking about the Life Changing Magic Of Tidying Up? The author talks about not just honoring her possessions but thanking them for the work they do, which seems sort of animist to me. (She's Japanese and so probably that comes out of Shinto, either a practice of or an exposure to? I haven't read the book yet myself, I'm number 364 on the library hold list for it.)

I think this is something that we all need to do more of.

Right now I am helping to care for my 87-year old father-in-law, who is a hoarder.  My M-i-L was also a hoarder.  Nothing has been done in the house since she passed away seven years ago.  I have been tasked with cleaning out the house.  At first I was nervous- maybe someone in the family would be upset if I threw something out!

I've gone through an 80-bag box of trash bags, two rolls of recycling bags, have a massive pile of things to donate, and that's just in one room!  For the love of all the gods, please declutter your life.

I have been forced to think about my own attitudes towards "things" as I work on this.  I agree very much with what another member mentioned about honoring the things you have.  I have found what used to be beautiful 100-year old books, but since they were in a box shoved in a corner and forgotten they are falling apart and infested with bugs.  As a lover of books this breaks my heart.

Sometimes I pick something up and I can hear my mother-in-law saying "Don't throw that away!  I might need it someday!"  It was difficult at first to not say the same thing to myself and keep the things, but it has gotten easier.  Now I find I can be realistic as to whether or not I am going to use something, or actually do a craft I want to do.  But now I'm looking forward to the simple pleasure of walking through a room without navigating a maze of box piles or stubbing my toe.

Something that's been on my mind lately and might be helpful to someone:  If you have a chest or cabinet that locks, be sure the key is someplace close by, taped to the back or something.  We have several heavy trunks that we cannot open, because out of the 50+ keys I've found scattered around, none of them open anything.  I suggest that if you have old keys, put them all in a mason jar or something and label it "keys with no lock".  They can be used in magical workings, and no one has to look at it and wonder what it's for.
