The Thule Cult
« on: December 09, 2014, 09:43:59 am »
I am looking for any information on the Thule Cult. I am doing research for a book I am working on and am not having a lot of luck. All the information I find seems very light and repetitive. I am looking for information on their beliefs and practices in particular.

Any resources, personal knowledge, or discussion is welcome.

Little is known about the Thule Society's specific beliefs. They were simply one of a large number of occult groups in Europe at the time. Other than the group was racist, anti-communist,  and may have believed any early form of the Aryan nonsense Hitler later espoused, there really isn't much known about their beliefs (although there is a lot of speculation).

There main claim to fame is that they were (along with a number of worker's rights groups in the Munich area) organizers of the DAP (the German Worker's Party) which Hitler took over and remade (into the NSDAP -- the National Socialist German Workers Party) in the early 1920s. Their newspaper was also taken over by the NSDAP and became the NSDAP party paper. A few early Nazis were members of the Thule Society, but probably not nearly as many as is often claimed.

Sadly this too is basically the limits of my knowledge along with a few symbols used or created by them. I know that Himmler was rumored to have rituals at the castle he had turned into the SS headquarters. I also have seen photos of the rings he had made but really that's it. I was hoping to get more then what the wiki page and a documentary on Hitler and the Occult could tell me. Not sure if I will though.

There's really no evidence that this had anything to do with the Thule Society.

Unfortunately there are far more "conspiracy theories" than facts about the Thule Society and their are even fewer facts known about its beliefs. Much of what gets written (or shown on TV) about the Thule Society falls more into the "conspiracy theory" than the fact side of things.

I personally don't know a lot about the Thule Cult but I'm awesome at research and can give some tips in that regard. Do you have a college or university close by? If so maybe you can get a guess pass for their library. College libraries have much more obscure information than a public library is going to have. I would try to look through any newspapers they might have from that era or if they have any copies of documents from that time period.

If it were me I'd go about researching similar groups of the time. Racial beliefs and the like were fairly common back then including in many spiritual groups (even those we'd call "new age" today) and it's likely the Thule Society had a lot in common with others into Atlantis, Thule, Hollow Earth, racial/blood theories, etc. But given it's association with the Nazis all the other groups would then sweep it under the carpet while conspiracy theorists would harp (HAARP? :p ) on it so that it would be extremely difficult to find anything accurate about it today.

Given how things were in Germany I'm not surprised that there were so many cults and fringe groups active as well.

One of the Element Encyclopedias,  "Of Secret Societies" has a few pages on the Thule Society. It's mostly the history, with names and dates. It's probably nothing more than you can find online, but it could at least possibly be a source if you have to reference anything.
