I touched on this on another reply to you (the Year and a Day thread) but there isn't a particular subforum for Wicca.

(This has to do partly with the fact that people use the terms in lots of different ways, and these are not particularly compatible for talking to each other with the same kind of specialised forum focus that some of the other subforums have, and partly that the Cauldron has always had a bunch of people who are interested in religious witchcraft, but often not very many at a time who identify specifically as Wiccan, and particularly not as people with a more traditional definition of Wicca.)

Anyway, basic questions can go in the Paganism for Beginners forum, questions about specific practices can go in the approriate folder (ritual questions in 'Worship and Rituals' or 'Holidays and Festivals', depending, and so on.) If you're really not sure, you can take your best guess and one of the staff will move it if it's really wrong.

And also that 'Wicca-influenced' - in some form or another - is very common, and gets treated as a default. There's no need to have a Wicca-specific area, because any post in the general areas will get Wiccish responses. (Heck, quite often posts in forums dedicated to other pagan religions get Wiccish responses, because people either aren't paying attention to where they are on TC, or are assuming that Wiccish responses apply to all pagan religions.)

Yep. I often see people being anxious about whether they'll get in trouble for putting a post in the wrong place, but there's no need to be; we're not uptight about that. I probably do more post-moving than all the rest of staff put together, and I only do so when either a) the topic of the post is clearly not related to the forum topic,  or b) there is a forum that is clearly more closely related.

The only time it might be a 'rules issue' is if someone habitually/repeatedly starts threads in forums to which their thread topic is outright irrelevant - I'm not sure that's ever happened, though. Mostly, when I'm moving a post, it's one that's genuinely hard to categorize, and I'm happy to be able to make sure it's in the best place.

I wouldn't mind helping to moderate a Wicca board, but, like you said, I don't know what we could viably accomplish there beyond debating the different forms of Wicca and Wicca-esque paths out there.

I find that a lot of times when people are asking questions about Wicca, they're really angling to find a teacher... which is fine, and I am qualified to take on students within my tradition of Wicca, but I don't know that I'd want our forum to take on the role of matching students with teachers. That could be... problematic.

I'm not even sure the board would be very useful for matching teachers and students given how scattered (around the world) our membership is. However, I'm not opposed to a Wicca SIG if there is really enough interest.

I'd be much more interested in a religious witchcraft sig that includes Wicca but isn't limited to it.

(As someone whose practice is outside Wicca as I define it, but inside Wicca as a lot of other people define it, in particular.)

I like this suggestion, as someone who also isn't (by my definition) Wiccan, but would be consider so by a lot of other people.  Don't we have like a sub-folder type set up so that Wicca could have it's own section within a Religious Witchcraft SIG?

I don't know that I'd want to separate it out. Wicca is one type of religious witchcraft. I guess I'm just worried that a pure Wicca board would either devolve into arguments of defining Wicca or become one of those "anything goes" fellowship boards, and I'm not interested in participating in either of those things.

But I would be totally on board with an area where we could discuss witchcraft seriously and in-depth. Maybe the seekers could learn something useful, too.

My problem with a Religious Witchcraft board is that many of those looking for Wicca (especially newbies) would not think that Wicca goes there. Just as they ignore the current Wicca areas -- both Pagan Religions and Paganism for Beginners have several Wicca/Witchcraft prefixes to categorize messages. But few people use the prefixes :(

Added: Because they don't see Wicca in the board title, I suspect.

I wouldn't be as kind. But... I'll try to post more Wicca and Witchcraft questions issuing the subtopic tags and we'll see how much interest those do get. I never get tired of schooling seekers on the Rede.

Can this be solved by calling it something like "Wicca and Other Religious Witchcraft", perhaps?  Suboptimal - it still feeds into Wiccish normalisation as default - but allowing for the basic flagging for newbies?
