Happy Turkey Day
« on: November 27, 2014, 01:59:02 pm »
Here in the United States of Freezingness (weather may vary), we're celebrating an odd holiday called Turkey Day (although some heathens call it Thanksgiving, they clearly have no clue what they're talking about), a day dedicated to either oppressive colonia, ist fanatics in funny buckled shoes with nice hats or gorging your gob with harvest treats!

In the spirit of the latter intent, I'd like to invite fellow Cauldronites to share their Autumnal foods, snacks and recipies here.

Myself, I'm drinking mulled beer and eating pumkin pie biscotti.

Howabout you?

Well I am from Canada and we celebrated out turkey day in October but I can share a super awesome recipe

Pumpkin Swirl Cheesecake

Roughly 18 ginger cookies crushed I used the big ones add more if they are smaller, don't try and put them in the blender does not work lols put them in a bag and crush with a rolling pin, I let my kids do this they loved it
 1/4 C ground pecans
 1/4C butter melted
3 pkg cream cheese has to be regular no lite or low fat
 3/4C sugar divided
 1 tsp. vanilla
 3 eggs
1C canned pumpkin not pie mix
 1 tsp. cinnamon
 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
 dash of cloves

Preheat oven to 350'F
Combine cookie crumbs, pecans and butter. Press into bottom of 9 inch springform pan.

Beat cream cheese, 1/2 C sugar and vanilla with electric mixer until well blended. Add eggs, 1 at a time, mixing on low speed after each addition just until blended.

Remove 1 cup plain batter, place in small bowl. Stir remaining sugar, pumpkin and spices into remaining batter. Spoon pumpkin batter into crust; top with spoonfuls of reserved plain batter. Cut through batter several times for swirl effect.

Bake 45 min. or until center is almost set should be slightly jiggly still. Cool completely. Refrigerate 4 hours or overnight.

Just a tip put a pan of boiling water on the bottom rack of the oven as you put the cheesecake in to prevent cracking.

Cheesecake is my favorite thing ever.

It's a tradition around my house that we're snooty and make pumpkin creme brûlée. I'm on mobile so it's kinda hard to link to, so I hope this works.

It is neither.  It is the day I bitch about the retail worker who wishes me Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas as I snap up those Black Friday deals on Thursday night. Then, like a hypocrite, I lament the slow death of American tradition.

*snicker* Oh, how I wish we had a 'like' button for this post!

Mom & I have a (relatively new) traditional dessert that we took to my cousin's house:
pumpkin mousse

This recipe is not exactly the one we started out with; we seemed to have misplaced the recipe card for the original one. (Part of one of those subscription recipe collections, where you get a couple of free ones as teasers, then have to pay a monthly fee to get more.)

Now you know what all those confusing posts that said, 'You must spread some reputation around before giving it to $username again,' were about (quoted from memory; might be slightly off).

For a little more context - the reputation system is set up so that people can't easily 'game' it into a popularity contest, hence people quoting the system's announcement in a post, to show that they'd wanted to rep something but weren't able to.
